2 Seattle Officers Sue Socialist Councilmember for Comments Over Fatal OIS

Two Seattle police officers Scott Miller and Michael Spaulding are suing socialist city councilmember Kshama Sawant as an individual for damaging their reputations with comments about a fatal officer-involved shooting.

The lawsuit, filed by Williams, Kastney and Gibbs, claims Sawant, acting beyond her scope as a city councilmember, personally defamed the two officers who were involved in the shooting death of Che Taylor after he allegedly pulled a gun on them. A gun was found at the scene and a witness corroborates the report from Miller and Spaulding. A King County inquest jury found that Taylor, indeed, posed a threat of death or serious injury to these two officers.

According to the filing, “…having never spoken to the officers, their attorney, the department, and with the investigation still incomplete, Kshama Sawant was publicly pronouncing these officers ‘murderers’ and referring to the shooting as a product of ‘racial profiling.’ As a consequence of her rhetoric, the lawsuit alleges the officers were “publicly berated and chastised” and Miller had to move, reports.

This is what needs to keep happening. Sue these people again and again. Including media outlets. Anymore the media is not even trying hide lies. It should be pretty easy cases to bring.

Great I hope both officers are succesful with their lawsuits against this councilwoman. She also needs to be investigated. She will do more harm than good. She had no right to damage thses oficers reputations.

Let us hope they do win. But they should also sue the city as the city is her employer and they gave her a soap box to stand on and also appear to have stood behind her. If the officers were being sued then they would have sued the city. And she obviously used her position as a council member to be heard. Maybe think about suing the media who spread the false information.

When these officials take their oaths, shouldn't this include supporting the people that work for that government entity ? When you have no facts to prove otherwise, why would you denounce those that protect you and your city ? No wonder we can't get any applications for police jobs, with idiots like this at the helm, things will only get worse.

kevcopaz @ 8/24/2017 11:49 AM

Fantastic! We need to use what the progressive anti-cops have used for year-THE COURTS! Even better now that Trump has appointed a new Supreme and many federal judges, needing to appoint several hundred more! Go get em officer. I hope to see this "council person" in debt and living on the streets. Louis mouth idiot that she is.

Trigger @ 8/24/2017 12:27 PM

What really scares me are the idiots who elect these idiots, what's this country turning into!!

jimthelast @ 8/24/2017 3:14 PM

AZBIGDOG: Nice idea but she's not a city employee. She's an elected official. Sorry.

This City Council member helps set policy for the City. By violating the rights of the Officers she incurred liability for the City. She damaged the Officers both personally and professionally, without regard to the Officers Civil Rights to due process. She created liability for the City under the Sager doctrine.
The Officers need to seek out a good Civil Rights plaintiff's attorney and file an action for 42 USC 1983. Violation of the Officers Federal Civil Rights.
She's earned this and did it deliberately. The Officers have a good case. DO IT!

BLUE RAIN @ 9/7/2017 1:18 PM

All LEO's, need to be pro-active! Protect one another. File lawsuits, whenever anyone violates, your Civil Rights. Demand the same from your PBA's. Except nothing less.
