Two Pennsylvania State Police troopers were shot and a suspect was killed Friday night in a shootout outside of a Fairchance, PA, convenience store.

Witnesses told the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette the troopers, possibly working undercover, saw a man they believed had an outstanding warrant against him. The troopers stopped him, the witnesses said, and he reached into his backpack, pulled out a gun and started shooting.

At least one of the troopers returned fire, killing the man, the witnesses said. The dead man was in his mid-20s, the witnesses said.

One of the troopers was life-flighted from the scene to a hospital in Morgantown, West Virginia, officials said. The other trooper was taken to a hospital via ambulance. Both were stable and alert, WPXI TV reports.
