An NYPD officer shot while sitting in a police vehicle in the Bronx has died, authorities said early Wednesday.

The fallen officer was identified as Miosotis Familia, 48, a 12-year veteran of the police force. She was assigned to the 46th Precinct.

The gunman was killed in a confrontation with two other officers after he fired on a mobile command post parked near E. 183rd St. and Creston Ave. around 12:30 a.m., according to police sources and Commissioner James O'Neill. He has been identified as Alexander Bonds.

O’Neill said the gunman fired one round, striking Familia in the head as she was wrapping up her shift in the Fordham Heights neighborhood.

Familia was critically wounded and rushed to St. Barnabas Hospital, where she died. A line of police saluted the fallen officer outside the hospital as she was escorted to the medical examiner.

Bonds’ criminal rap sheet includes an assault on a police officer with brass knuckles, a source said. He was paroled in 2013 after serving seven years for a robbery in the Syracuse area, according to state records.

"Let's be clear. This was nothing less than an assassination of a police officer. Our understanding is she was filling out her memo book and he walked out and fired one round," a source told the New York Daily News.

Very sad for NYPD and the family of Officer Familia. The perp according to news reprots was put on parole when he killed Office Familia. Hopefully that will be looked into and the outcome of it who knows. At least the perp is dead and he won't be incarcerated. I agree with kavcopaz he is absolutley right on this with BLM.

A very sad day for all law enforcement. Officer Familia's death was another example of the hate instilled in people by the previous people in power and in the media. This weak-minded individual did what he did for reasons unknown to us but it is apparent that he hated police. Our thoughts and prayers are for the repose of the soul of this slain Officer and our prayers go out for her children and family. As is the case with other comments, where are the poverty pimps, the criminal solicitators, the people who, although they're 1500 miles away, know what happened when a person of color is killed. Now a 12 year veteran is assassinated and not a word from Black Lives Matter, or any of the outspoken voices of protest. A very sad situation just got even more so.

FOLKS, PLEASE STOP BURYING YOUR HEADS IN LAPTOPS, CELL PHONES, MEMO BOOKS ETC. STAY ALERT TO YOUR SURROUNDINGS ! THERE ARE DANGEROUS PEOPLE OUT THERE LOOKING TO DO YOU HARM, AND IT'S ONLY GOING TO GET WORSE. BE SAFE, STAY ALERT.
