FL Shoplifting Suspect Fatally Stabs Himself on Stolen Knife

May 09, 2017  |

Plant City, FL, detectives have identified Jerry Ellis Word, 53, of Lakeland as the suspect who stole a knife and latter passed away from a self-inflicted knife wound.

Plant City police said Word un-packaged a knife inside Lowe's Home Improvement Center, concealed the knife, and began to leave the store.

A loss prevention employee confronted him and the suspect pulled the knife and threatened employees.

Word was found mortally wounded shortly after leaving the store. Police told Fox 13 they think Word stabbed himself with the knife while he was running away. They were not sure if it happened by accident or if he injured himself on purpose.
