A California Highway Patrol officer involved in a fatal shooting late Friday night has been released from an area hospital after being shot in the thigh during a traffic stop on Interstate 5 north of Red Bluff.

A California Highway Patrol officer involved in a fatal shooting late Friday night has been released from an area hospital after being shot in the thigh during a traffic stop on Interstate 5 north of Red Bluff.

The officer was shot during an exchange of gunfire after he pulled over a vehicle just before midnight on I-5 near the Hooker Creek Road interchange, according to the Tehama County Sheriff’s Office, which has taken over an investigation into the shooting.

The officer stopped a white Hyundai Sedan and spoke with the two adult men in the car north of Hooker Creek Road, Redding.com reports. The officer was shot in the right thigh by one of the men while he was talking to them, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
