Woman Shoots, Kills Man Attacking Indiana Officer

A Rising Sun, IN, woman shot and killed a man Monday who was fighting with an Indiana Conservation Officer.

A Rising Sun, IN, woman shot and killed a man Monday who was fighting with an Indiana Conservation Officer, police said, reports Cincinnati.com.

The officer responded to the 8300 block of State Road 56 between Rising Sun and Aberdeen around 12:30 p.m. for a report of a suspicious person, the Indiana State Police reported in a news release.

At the scene, the officer reported finding Justin K. Holland, 32, near a vehicle on the roadside. Police said at some point during the interaction, Holland began to resist the officer and fight with him.

Officials report a woman from a nearby home came to aid the officer, "who was being overtaken by Holland."

"The female fired one shot from a personally owned firearm at Holland, striking him in the torso," police said in the release.

Holland was taken to Dearborn County Hospital where he died, officials said.

The conservation officer also was taken to Dearborn County Hospital for treatment of injuries suffered in the altercation, according to Indiana State Police. None of the injuries were life-threatening.
