Texas Officer, Suspect Shot at Traffic Stop

A Weatherford, TX, police officer and a man with a warrant out for his arrest were shot Thursday night during a traffic stop, police said.

A Weatherford, TX, police officer and a man with a warrant out for his arrest were shot Thursday night during a traffic stop, police said.

Preliminary information indicates that Officer Chris Bumpas was hit by friendly fire from another officer responding as he struggled with a suspect, police said. The suspect was also shot.

Bumpas, who underwent surgery early Friday, was stable and appeared to be recovering well, the Dallas Morning News reports.

The suspect's condition and information about his outstanding warrant were not available early Friday. He had not been identified.
