4 Children Die in Indiana House Fire, Officers Injured Trying to Rescue Them

Flora police Chief Paul Redmon said Officer Josh Disinger and Carroll County Sheriff's Deputy Drew Yoder first responded to the scene and rushed into the home without proper ventilation equipment.

Four children died and two police officers were injured Monday during a house fire in Flora, IN.

Flora police Chief Paul Redmon said Officer Josh Disinger and Carroll County Sheriff's Deputy Drew Yoder first responded to the scene and rushed into the home without proper ventilation equipment.

Ultimately, Disinger pulled Yoder from the home because smoke made a rescue impossible, Redmon said.

"That's how our guys are," he said. "They're going to do whatever they can to help you out; they'll worry about themselves later."

Disinger was transported to Lafayette with injuries related to smoke inhalation and is in stable condition, Redmon added.

Carroll County Sheriff Tobe Leazenby said Yoder was airlifted to Fort Wayne with burns to his hands and face, as well as injuries related to smoke inhalation.
