Two wounded Boston police officers are undergoing another round of surgeries today, police said.

The officers, who were injured in a shootout with a heavily armed suspect on Wednesday night, are at Massachusetts General Hospital where they are undergoing treatment for multiple gunshot wounds, reports the Boston Herald.

"The outstanding staff at MGH continues to help our officers during this difficult time," Boston police commissioner William Evans said. "I cannot thank them enough."

Officers Matthew Morris and Richard Cintolo were injured in a firefight with 33-year-old constable Kirk Figueroa, who was killed during the gun battle, authorities said.

Both officers were rushed from the scene to Massachusetts General where they immediately underwent surgery due to the severity of the injuries and a massive amount of blood loss, police said.

The nature of today’s surgeries was not disclosed.
