A Forsyth County, NC, deputy has died 10 days after being hit by a vehicle while working at a bike race, reports WXII.

Deputy John Isenhour, 38, died following a collision Sept. 18 during the Tour to Tanglewood bike race. He had been in the intensive care unit at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center.

Isenhour had been a Forsyth County deputy since October 2015. He served as a Marine for 18 years before joining the Forsyth County Sheriff's Office, according to a statement the department released Wednesday.

The State Highway Patrol investigated the collision. Troopers told the Winston-Salem Journal that Isenhour was directing traffic on Clemmons Road, also known as Highway 158, when he was hit by a Lexus that was being driven by a 92-year-old woman. Charges are pending, troopers told the paper.
