Long Island Officer Stabbed, Suspect Shot by Backup Officer

A Suffolk County, NY, Police officer was seriously injured after being stabbed in the face Saturday afternoon and the man who stabbed him is in critical condition after being shot by another officer, police said.

It happened in Central Islip at about 1:20 p.m. According to police, officers responded to a 911 call at 281 Oakland Ave. and found 40-year-old Mark Caraway armed with knives.

Caraway was confrontational and stabbed an officer in the face, police said. Another officer shot Caraway once in the abdomen.

The officer was transported to a local hospital in serious but non-life threatening condition, police said. He required facial surgery, Patch.com reports.
