An explosion near a patrol car has left two Junction City, OR, officers with concussion-like symptoms, according to police.

The Lane County Sheriff’s Office initially responded to a report of shots being fired near 9th Avenue and Greenwood Street around 7 p.m.

Two police officers reportedly called for backup because they thought someone was shooting at them.

They were out patrolling the neighborhood with the windows down when the explosive went off.

“When something like that goes off, once it's over and you are grateful to be alive…you really don't know how close it is,” said Lane County Sheriff’s Captain Spence Slater.

Captain Slater told KEZI TV that evidence nearby indicates that it was a device resembling a pipe bomb.
