A memorial dedicated to fallen Florida state troopers in Tampa has cracked granite, dead grass, and nonworking lights. But police supporters hope to change that, reports WTSP.

Recently a 6-year-old boy discovered the problem after not finding his deceased mother's name on the memorial wall, which also is missing another officer's name. Since then many people have rallied to fix the memorial.

  • Lowe's of Tampa has agreed to do all of the landscaping.
  • An anonymous granite company has agreed to repair the memorial.
  • Julie Weintraub of the Gold & Diamond Source has agreed to match donations to fix the memorial up to $2,000.

But supporters need more help. Tom Berry, director of the National Blue Alert System, is organizing the repair efforts. He says the electric for the lighting needs to be repaired, the sprinkler system is still broken, and the sidewalk leading to the memorial is buckling. "We'd now just like the community to be involved with and get the other three things done. That is going to cost us some money," says Berry.

In 2000, the fallen trooper memorial was built by a private organization which has gone out of business. Donations raised will improve the site and also see to its continued upkeep. To help, click here.
