VIDEO: Michigan Deputy and Wife Found Dead in Their Backyard

A Calhoun County (MI) Sheriff’s deputy and his wife were found shot to death outside of a home in Emmett Township Sunday morning.

Neighbors told investigators the shooting happened around 1 a.m., but they initially mistook the sound of the shots for fireworks. A family member called 911 around 8 a.m., at which point authorities responded to the scene in the first block of McAllister Road.

Neighbors said the couple’s two children were home when the shooting happened, as were some of the children’s friends for a sleepover. It was not immediately known if they witnessed the shooting.

Sheriff’s officials said the deputy was an 18-year veteran of the department. He was not on duty at the time of the shooting, WOOD TV reports.
