Chicago FOP Chief Slams Incendiary Police Racism Report for "Bias"

April 15, 2016  |

The president of the largest Chicago police union on Thursday blasted a new report that recommends broad reforms within the department, calling the report one-sided and unfair to officers.

Dean Angelo Sr., president of the Fraternal Order of Police, said he thinks members of Mayor Rahm Emanuel's hand-picked Police Accountability Task Force made up their minds about police before studying the issues. The report, written in occasionally scalding language, cites statistics and historic events as it calls out the department for alleged racial bias and indifference to the problems of residents.

The nearly 200-page report, released Wednesday, faults the city and the police union for allowing officers to escape accountability for misconduct. The report comes amid a U.S. Department of Justice civil rights investigation spurred by the release of video of a police officer fatally shooting African-American 17-year-old Laquan McDonald. The task force report called the release of the video a "tipping point" in police-community relations.

"I believe they had an agenda or a built-in bias going in," Angelo told the Chicago Tribune. "And I don't see the need to do that when the Department of Justice are the subject matter experts, not the task force."

..the report states that the Chicago Police Department's "own data gives validity to the widely held belief the police have no regard for the sanctity of life when it comes to people of color"

Now even though the reporter on this story is Ray Sanchez and this is CNN the stats do come directly from the CPD. I think I know how many of you will bother to read the article now that this story from the FOP disputes the whole thing

1. Blacks are shot at alarming rates.
2. City has a sad history of false arrests and wrongful convictions.
3. Those sworn to protect instead often mistreat.
4. Many cops view people of color as perps.
5. Combating racial bias is not a department priority.
6. There is no accountability.
7. Police stops make matters worse.

....Angelo thinks members of Mayor Rahm Emanuel's Task Force made up their minds about police before studying the issues
Of course he does he's an idiot

Dean Angelo is correct. Their minds were made up before they falsified their foolish report. All they're doing is causing a lot of needless trouble.

@ SES

Would I be correct in assuming that once again your proof/evidence is because it's what you believe, after your 0 years of le experience and probably just as few as an adult.

Sheriffs Explorer Sgt. @ 4/15/2016 6:38 PM

Assuming makes an ass out of you, percy.

I hope that Chicago and other cities to exactly what these BLM /Lib commissions (etc) want them to do, stop doing any police work, especially on-view active work- so that thugs and criminals can run the streets more then they do already. Then when all goes to hell even more then perhaps non common sense people like Percy and others will get the unintended consequences that they did not think of and life in the cities will be much worse. The pendulum has gone so far left and needs to pushed a bit more that way so it will swing back to the middle where common sense and law and order will once again be the rule of the day. Percy you keep attacking others for lack of LEO experience, not that we can verify it, but I wonder where and how long YOU were a cop.

Kev, I totally agree. As for our nemesis Percy, he needs to do a ride along several times to get another perspective rather than what he gets from social media. Percy, RIDE ALONG, let us know what you come up with, all we ask is that you do one with an open mind and tell us the truth when you are done. No guts, no glory. Have a safe RIDE ALONG.

Yesterday a Chicago Police Officer was trying to arrest a black guy at an apartment complex. A crowd of black idiots swarmed the Officer and stated punching and kicking him. He had to run away and call for backup. This will be happening more often now that the CPD are all "racists".

Sheriffs Explorer Sgt. @ 4/16/2016 8:16 PM

You'll get arrested for making death threats to the PD. Did you know that's a crime? Why do you think death threats are a good thing you old hippie???
