VIDEO: Undercover Alabama Officer, Suspect in Critical Condition After Shootout

Arrest warrants have been issued against the man accused of shooting an undercover Mobile Police Officer several times this morning in Grand Bay, AL, reports WKRG.

Ryan Burkhardt, 32, of Mobile, suffered six to nine gunshot wounds in his exchange with the officer and is currently listed in critical but stable condition at USA Medical Center. He was targeted in an early morning operation for the possession of illegal firearms and crystal-meth.

The undercover officer, whose name is awaiting release, was shot two times in the altercation that authorities say was a sting operation gone wrong. The officer, who family members say was shot in the leg and lower abdomen, went into surgery this morning to have part of his lower intestine removed. He is currently listed in critical but stable condition.

After striking one officer in the abdomen, just below his vest, and in his lower thigh, officers traded more than 20 rounds of ammunition with Burkhardt, who took several rounds into a concealed ballistic vest before being subdued, reports

"This was a very sophisticated criminal who had much the same armor and weaponry as our police units," Mobile Police Department Chief James Barber says.

My prayers go out to the Officer, his family, and the PD. I am so frustrated by this right now. This is the second shooting of a Police Officer in two days! Its ridiculous. I hope we're not gonna have another shooting spree, like last month, when in eight days eight LEOs were shot and killed. The Obama administration has only made things worse. What bugs me about him is that while he says so much about "poor little black kids getting killed by those murderous white racist cops". OBAMAS CONDOLENCES ARE A LOT OF CRAP. Case in point; Tamir Rice: that was a tragic incident and it wouldn't have happened if the kids mother had been watching him. Instead he goes out pretending to aim a realistic looking gun at people. His mistake was to try to pull it on the responding Officers. Unsurprisingly he got shot. Obama told the parents how sorry he was that they had such a racist PD and he'd try to fix it. Imposing a federal monitor on the CPD was not the answer. Obama is trying to punish the entire CPD because of one kids tragic mistake.

Marcus @ 4/2/2016 12:17 AM

I see Sheriffs Explorer Sgt - you only care about the lives of police officers. So what about people like Daniel Shaver who recently got executed by police while being complaint and begging?
I guess that life doesn't matter? Nor the numerous homeless people like Kelly Thomas that have beaten to death for sport by the very same "men in blue" - while our government does nothing?

Marcus @ 4/2/2016 12:23 AM

And Tamir Rice was a normal boy playing normal boy games. The only reason he is dead is because the police didn't give him any warnings and shot him within seconds of arriving on scene. They did the very same thing to John Crawford III - shooting him within seconds and not giving him any time to drop his weapon.
Immediately shooting someone while screaming "drop your weapon" is not good enough.
It's still murder.

Sheriffs Explorer Sgt. @ 4/2/2016 9:34 AM

Marcus, I'm not going to repeat what I said about Tamir Rice. The Beavercreek PD Officers who killed Crawford were justified. Crawford, being an idiot, was pointing a realistic looking pellet gun at people. Who wants that? Did you know that black lives matter (domestic terrorist group) was heavily involved in the news media account of the shooting. Crawford's family has created an online petition trying to charge the Officer. No intelligent person will sign that thing. Only the blm terrorists will. Of course black lives matter set Crawford up on a pedastal as their latest martyr. And Obama encourages these thugs by contributing to the idea that they're martyrs and the Police are like an occupying force. Marcus, I hope that no Police Officer ever gets hurt or killed protecting you. You're not worth it.

kevCopAz @ 4/2/2016 1:46 PM

Marcus, you anti cops are strange folks! You take somethings that have absolutly nothing with this article and spout off!. About 90% of the alleged police misconduct case your type complain about are ligitamaite, legal shooting that were investigated (more then ANY shooting) and the cops cleared. The "victims" in those could have just done what they were lawfully ordered to do and there would have been no problem. You disrespect this officer and every officer shot when you just ramble on your politically correct BLM BS. For all you know this officer was black and the offender white, but you could care less, the cop was a cop and he "deserved" what he got because we cops are all "corrupt and looking to gun down poor black folk". Get a life or at the least a grip on reality you foolish man.

Paul @ 4/2/2016 6:05 PM

Well, obviously Marcus is not a police officer. So my question would be WTF is he dong on a law enforcement related web site!?!?! Marcus needs to take his BS someplace where those of his kind will listen and enjoy. In the meantime, another one of our Brothers lies in a hospital because of someone of Marcus' ilk.

Nightstalker @ 4/2/2016 8:57 PM

Marcus. Why do you come into this site and bash cops? If you think you can put on a badge and a gun go ahead but a punk like you would just get behind a computer and trash cops.

Sheriffs Explorer Sgt. @ 4/2/2016 9:34 PM

Marcus is the type of guy that would assault a Police Officer. Its due to people like him that so many LEOs are being murdered this year. He needs to take his head out of his fourth point of contact and wake up.

jackjumpin @ 4/3/2016 5:01 AM

For several of you gentlemen some of your views expressed here disrespectful as well as inflammatory. I' not responding to the article I'm responding to the poison that we are spewing at one another. I had hoped that this site would be a place where we would give honest support for one another. It might as well be a tabloid news paper. I can call you my brothers but you all should wear the others shoes.

Sheriffs Explorer Sgt. @ 4/3/2016 9:02 AM

Jackjumpin, Marcus is the only one who expresses disrespectful and inflammatory views on this site. Tell all that to him.

Robert @ 4/3/2016 10:16 PM

KevCopAz..I would agree that 90% of police shootings are legal.
But, I disagree with one of your points...the Tamir Rice case.

Tamir Rice had no time to react before he was shot...this is the issue on why the public is frustrated.
It was obvious, even to the soon to be Ex-DA that the LEOs in this case were negligent (commands issued inside the car; car to close to victim, not enough time given; poor dispatch communication...the list of SIMPLE negligence is almost too long to list). To the average citizen, that would mean a crime has been committed.
But what the DA had to explain, was that in order for the LEO to be charged the negligence had to meet the standard of GROSS negligence OR malice...and since those could not be proven; he recommended a no-bill.

The Tamir Rice shooting was probably "criminally legal"...but that doesn't make it right.
In addition, the negligence shown by the LEO in that case should be enough to have them fired...but that hasn't happened yet.

Sheriffs Explorer Sgt. @ 4/3/2016 11:01 PM

Robert, "please" don't be insulted, but is your life devoted to spreading the religion of ignorance?

RG @ 4/4/2016 5:56 AM

SO my question is this. We have established by means of the Percy, Leonard Marcus, commenters that LE is corrupt and evil. Who are you guys going to call when , God forbid, your daughter, wife gets raped, your son gets mugged and left half beaten to death on the side of the road ? Hopefully groups like Black Lives Matter will come and offer resources of help and investigate, arrest the perpetrators, because you darn sure wont call us killers.

Percy @ 4/4/2016 7:51 PM

@ Sheriffs Explorer Sgt.
Look holster sniffer
Another of your dazzling responses to a thoughtout, critical look at a situation deserving of debate and discussion, and as always your response is to insult and nothing else.
It's obvious you have nothing to add from a critical and are incapable of an opinion other than
blind adoration.
Hence the badge bunny & holster sniffer comments

The only cop I would ever call is a very good friend of mine who is retired from 38 years of honorable service. He rose to a very high rank with our national service. He is as good and honest a man as I have ever known, and I trust him with my life.
Oddly enough he feels pretty much the same way I do about present day le.
