Off-Duty California Officer Witnesses Fatal Shooting, Exchanges Fire with Suspect

February 22, 2016  |

An off-duty police officer chased a man suspected of fatally shooting another man in a car-to-car shooting in San Pedro, CA, early Saturday morning, police said.

A male victim was struck by gunfire in the car-to-car shooting and later died, police said.

The officer saw the shooter and followed his vehicle until the gunman stopped near Santa Cruz Street and N. Cabrillo Avenue. The gunman then got out of his car and fired several rounds at the officer. The officer, who was not hit, fired back at the suspect, KNBC TV reports.

The suspected gunman fled from the scene and could not be located, according to the LAPD.
