Man Wielding Knife Fatally Shot by Florida Deputy

February 16, 2016  |

The Manatee County Sheriff’s Office says a deputy shot and killed a man who approached him wielding a knife, the Associated Press reports.

Sheriff Brad Steube says deputies were called to 50-year-old Marc Stoddart’s Bradenton home Sunday afternoon after Stoddart’s wife called 911 to report that he had been drinking and was armed with a knife and threatening to harm her and himself.

In a statement, Steube says deputies found Stoddart outside the home, holding a knife and having cut his wrists.

Steube says Stoddart refused deputies’ orders to drop the knife, and one deputy fatally shot him after Stoddart approached in “a threatening manner.”
