VIDEO: Suspect Confesses to Shooting Philadelphia Officer in Name of Islam

Authorities say a Philadelphia police officer is recovering after he was shot several times during an ambush late Thursday night in West Philadelphia, reports KYW-TV.

Philadelphia police commissioner Richard Ross says the officer, identified as 33-year-old Jesse Hartnett, was sitting in his patrol car around 11:30 p.m. at 60th and Spruce Streets when a gunman fired nearly a dozen shots through the driver's side of the car.

"Shots fired! I'm shot! I'm bleeding heavily!" Officer Hartnett was heard yelling on police radio.

Police are calling it an "attempted assassination."

During a press conference, Commissioner Ross said the gun used in the attack was a stolen police firearm. Ross says the suspect has given a full confession, saying he did it in the name of Islam.

Despite being seriously wounded, Hartnett got out of his car, chased the suspect and returned fire, wounding his attacker in the buttocks, police said. Other officers chased Archer and apprehended him, reports the Associated Press.

Hartnett, 33, was shot three times in the arm and will require multiple surgeries, but was listed in stable condition. Archer was treated and released into police custody.

They need to have a town hall hanging of this individual in the name of Islam!!!!!

After the Police Commissioner analyzed the data quite accurately, the Mayor then made diametrically opposing comments regarding the facts presented by the Commissioner regarding Islam. The Mayor's remarks negating the Perp's stated purpose, in spite of his shout of Allah Akbar went past the Mayor like a speeding bullet. We cannot beat the enemy unless we know who it is.

I hope this officer is okey and God be with him.

Tom Ret @ 1/11/2016 7:44 AM

The Mayor is a classic liberal, pc, moron who doesn't want people believing the obvious, that the suspect did the act in the name of Islam.

LEO (RET) @ 1/11/2016 9:12 AM

Our prayers are with you Officer Hartnett. You showed exemplary courage in a deadly and unprovoked encounter. Your will to survive and your Warrior Mindset to pursue this POS after being shot three times was very inspiring and heroic. St. Michael and your Guardian Angel were definitely with you that night. All of LE should be very proud of you. As far as that moronic mayor, he brought shame to himself, the city and to the world. Such ignorance is running rampant in the far left, and was a slap in the face to everyone. God Bless you Brother and get well soon.

Great job officer! Get well officer and stay safe

Come on folks, the WH isn't quite sure what this is. I think Obama is leaning toward "the perp got his gun at an NRA gun show without a background check, the NRA put him up to it, and it was "workplace violence""

Heal quickly Officer Hartnett, we need Blues of your courage and guts to stem the rising tide of pos muslims bent on destroying our country, and that includes the one in the WH. Thank you. Blues, Stay Safe.
