VIDEO: California Deputies Tell Story of Their Shootout with San Bernardino Terrorists

For three San Bernardino County Sheriff's deputies, the day two terrorists went on a deadly shooting spree Dec. 2, will be a day they never forget.

Deputy Shaun Wallen recalled the moment he came face-to-face with Syed Rizwan Farook and Tashfeen Malik -- a husband and wife team that killed 14 people and wounded 22 others at the Inland Regional Center.

"It was very, very frightening. I was very scared," Wallen said. "I exited the vehicle. Both suspects were firing at me."

The confrontation happened on San Bernardino Avenue, where he and a Redlands police officer engaged in a gun battle with Farook and Malik, NBC 4 reports.

Very courageous law officers. Deputy Wallenberg is very truthful. To admit his true feelings takes a lot of courage and reflects great credit on him and his department. Congratulations to the whole department!

No one but a fool would go into a situation like this and not be scared. The important thing is to do your duty in spite of the fear and these officers sure as hell did that. Avoid like the plague an officer who says he has never been scared. He will run out on you when the s**t hits the fan or he will get you killed in some other way.
