VIDEO: Officer Run Over Outside Dallas Club

Dallas Police Department Senior Cpl. Ed Lujan was scalped and suffered numerous broken bones early Monday when a car ran over him twice, police say. A suspect, 29-year-old Eduardo Gonzalez-Rios, was shot by Lujan's colleagues but survived, reports the Dallas Morning News.

Shortly after midnight, Lujan was among uniformed Dallas officers working an off-duty job at the Kalua Discotheque in the 2400 block of W. Northwest Highway. Lujan, a 20-year veteran, is a financial crimes detective by day.

Maj. Max Geron of the Dallas police crimes against persons division said Gonzalez-Rios was escorted out by club security after a disturbance and told to leave the premises. Gonzalez-Rios got into his SUV after the valet brought it to him and allegedly backed up quickly and hit one Dallas officer. Police said that officer was not seriously injured.

He then drove forward over a curb and ran "completely over" Lujan, Geron said. Witnesses told police that Gonzalez-Rios also backed over Lujan afterward. The other officers opened fire, striking Gonzalez-Rios. It's unclear how many times he was shot.

Gonzalez-Rios was at Parkland Memorial Hospital. His condition was unknown Monday. He faces charges of aggravated assault on a public servant.

Lujan was in stable condition Monday at Parkland Memorial Hospital, where he was transported following frantic radio calls for assistance.

DALLAS — Senior Cpl. Ed Lujan remains hospitalized with severe injuries from his head to his toes. The veteran Dallas police officer nearly died Monday morning when he was run over outside a Dallas nightclub.

News 8 has learned that the suspect — Eduardo Gonzalez-Rios — shouldn't have been in the U.S. He habitually dodges Border Patrol. This invasion must be stopped now!

Does the writer of this piece realize, that another "journalist" can quote this article, right where he can read "The Police Office was not seriously injured."

Hope you weren't too late for your coffee break to have added "at that moment."

Sheesh.

I hope Cpl. Lujan heals well and returns to duty. As for the pos that damn near killed him, not shot enough. Where's the POTUS claiming our borders are safe? Blues, Stay Safe.

I am surprised Gonzalez-Rios did not make it to a Sanctuary City. Harry Reid should be informed about this so that he can be of greater assistance to illegal Perps now that he squelched the Kate Steinle Law. My prayers are for Cpl Ed Lujan; may he be aided by St. Michael and St. Jude.

Agg. Assault on a police officer? Why not "attempted capital murder?" He ran him ove 2 times and meant too. Too bad he survived p.o.s. Get well Corporal Lujan.

John retired IA PD @ 11/11/2015 8:31 AM

Too bad there wasn't a college student there with a smart phone to video this attempted murder of a police officer. Then maybe it would have made the national news. Get well soon CPL Lujan. Stay safe blues.
