VIDEO: Black U.S. Citizen Seeks Refugee Status in Canada

A U.S. citizen has argued before Canada's Immigration and Refugee Board in Vancouver that he should be granted refugee status over fears that he will be killed in his home country by police because he is black, reports the CBC.

Kyle Lydell Canty, 30, crossed into British Columbia's Lower Mainland in early September of 2015, telling border agents that he was in Canada to visit and take photographs, but once in Vancouver decided he would apply to remain as a refugee.

"I'm in fear of my life because I'm black," he told IRB member Ron Yamauchi in a hearing on October 23rd in Vancouver. "This is a well-founded fear."

Canty argues that black people are "being exterminated at an alarming rate" in the U.S. and included examples such as the shooting of Michael Brown in Missouri and the death of Eric Garner in New York City at the hands of police.

He wants to live in Canada, more power to him.

I lived in a suburb of Toronto for 3 years with a LEO wife who was a cop in CANADA and I was a cop in the USA that immigrated to be with her and worked security there. If this joker thinks hes anymore accepted in Canada then in the USA hes in for a rude awaking. The non French Canadians dislike the French and despise those in Quebec. The foreigners are looked down upon and even though I was from the USA I wasn't liked either until I proved myself to my friends there and her family. Wait until he gets pulled over in Canada....run your mouth and OPP will bust you right where you stand. They don't play.

Kyle has done the right thing. Maybe he will start a trend.

Tschako @ 11/3/2015 6:26 PM

Oh Brother! By using the death of two criminals, which were justifiable homicide, I would hope that even ultra-liberal Trudeau would not even listen to this man, even if he is "alarmed". Don't commit crime, comply when contacted by police, and you'll live a long life.

Big Joe @ 11/3/2015 7:15 PM

Good riddens. You and your ghetto thugs should stop committing violent crimes and attacking killing people including your own race and police. Canada knows if they let him in more will come and their violent crime will increase 1000 percent. Blacks killing blacks is the highest under rate. So stop crying about police and admit and look at your own race killing each other.

What a joke, eh?

Leonard Mather @ 11/3/2015 8:12 PM

The Canadian IRB analysis should be based on reality and they may realistically point out to Kyle Canty that his belief is delusional. Based on that I would give him the choice of being committed to a mental facility, or being escorted to the border. At a Mental Facility, he could be asked to "prove his case." If they laws against frivolous involvements with authorities, Then he should be jailed for that infraction. His defense would give him the opportunity to prove the accuracy of his convictions. He might be reminded that saying something does NOT make it so.

James @ 11/3/2015 9:11 PM

YES Canada, PLEASE take him! If blacks are being exterminated, it is by their OWN hands. Blacks are murdering blacks more than any other group. Period.
Feel like you need to leave MY country? GO! Please GO!

Tony @ 11/3/2015 11:14 PM

Mr. Canty, if your people are "being exterminated" as you say, it's not at the hands of the police. It's being done by YOUR OWN PEOPLE. B:LACK-ON-BLACK crime kills far more of "your people" than police-on-black shootings. Actually, statistically, more white people are shot by police than people of color.

But I'm sorry to confuse you with the facts................

Fed Cop 1 @ 11/4/2015 6:18 AM

Well if he's in fear of being killed, stay out of Chicago and Detroit.Let him stay in Canada, C-ya!

S.S. @ 11/4/2015 6:23 AM

This person is NOT a man, he's a chicken sh** ! If Canada buys it so be it. Keep his criminal ass over there. We don't want him. That's just one less asshole that we have to worry about.

Pup @ 11/4/2015 2:42 PM

This guy got what he wanted, publicity. Hopefully, the rest of his kind will follow.
