VIDEO: Off-Duty Texas Deputy Shot 5 Times Trying to Stop Theft of His Vehicle

An off-duty Harris County, TX, detention officer was shot five times, once in the face, after confronting a group of robbers who deputies say were attempting to steal his vehicle in north Houston.

The shooting happened after 11:30pm Sunday when the deputy heard someone breaking into his vehicle at the Rock Creek Apartment Complex on Hollow Tree Lane at Westfield.

The deputy went outside with his gun and found two people inside his vehicle.

Upon approaching the vehicle, the two men ran and jumped into a Ram pickup truck where two other men were waiting, reports KTRK TV.
