California Trooper Shot, Suspect Killed in Eureka Traffic Stop

November 02, 2015  |

A man suspected of shooting a California Highway Patrol officer during a traffic stop in Eureka on Sunday afternoon has died from the injuries he sustained when the officer returned fire, according to Eureka Police Chief Andrew Mills.

"The officer made a traffic stop on the vehicle," Mills said during a press conference at the scene of the shooting Sunday evening. "And when he made the traffic stop on the vehicle, a short time afterward, a person came out of the car firing a handgun at him and he was struck and he went down and he returned fire, wounding the suspect. That suspect has succumbed to his injuries at the hospital and that's all we have at this time."

According to a release from the Eureka PD sent out later Sunday night, the trooper was shot in the leg, the San Jose Mercury News reports.

I want to know if the suspect was white or black. Seeing as how the news media (CBS. NBC and ABC) only concentrate on white cop v. black, I would suspect he's white, because if he he was black, the news media would have made another "big deal" about this! ALL LIVES MATTER! Quit being one-sided and tell the public! the truth! "Black man shoots white cop" ....no big deal. Has happened dozens of times in last several years. "White cop shoots black man" is national news. What's wrong with this picture?

Get well Officer, your brothes and sisters in blue are pulling for you.

Blue lives matter. Good job officer.

Good another win for us, get well brother! I agree with the person asking what races were involved. We (Media) and especially a police related media, should always mention the race of the officer and the offender. Perhaps folks will get a clue that the race of the officer never matters, even minority officers are attacked and even kill other minorities AND perhaps if we stress the reality of the race of most offenders who shoot at cops, the reason many minorities are shot by police might be evident.
