CHP Officer Shot During Traffic Stop, Suspect Arrested

September 11, 2015  |

A California Highway Patrol officer was wounded early Friday in an exchange of gunfire with a driver during a traffic stop off the 10 Freeway in West Covina, officials said, reports the Los Angeles Times.

The gun battle erupted about 1:40 a.m. near Sunset and Garvey avenues, according to CHP Officer Rodrigo Jimenez. The attacked officer returned fire and wounded the gunman, who sped off in a silver Cadillac Escalade, Jimenez said.

The injured officer was found in his patrol car in a parking lot near the freeway. He was listed in stable condition at a hospital, officials said.

Officers from nearby law enforcement agencies swarmed the area, spotted the suspect vehicle and chased it into Fontana, where the driver crashed the Escalade in a field, Jimenez said.

This was California so even though the Officer was wounded he will still be blamed for the perp being wounded because they will say that the stop was unwarranted.
