Because of ‘Horror Show,’ New England Police Union Boycott's Obama Labor Day Address

September 07, 2015  |

The New England Police Benevolent Association chose to boycott President Obama’s Labor Day breakfast address in Boston today to make a statement about violence against police, union executive director Jerry Flynn, a Lowell, Mass., police officer told the Boston Herald.

“Our members are enraged at his lack of support of law enforcement. It’s clear that he has an agenda, and unfortunately the police are not part of his agenda.

Let’s face it, (there have been) eight people killed in a nine-day period, eight police officers, and his silence up until recently has been deafening. And the real sad part of this — and when I went to the White House in the first term with (Vice President) Joe Biden — he said to me that he would be the voice of law enforcement. Well, as much as I love and adore Joe, his voice has been silent as well. So it’s not an Obama problem, it’s an administration problem.

This is a horror show, this is an epidemic of lawless people trying to kill police officers for no apparent reasons. Case in point is the [deputy] who was pumping gas in Houston. Over 7,000 people were at that church, and where was he (Obama)? Why wasn’t he there instead of a unity breakfast?” Flynn said in a statement.

I believe there will be a point where law enforcement will downright loathe this individual if they don't already and that individual is President Obama.

Oathkeeper86 @ 9/7/2015 12:00 PM

It's because Obummer doesn't care. He wants a federal police force. We are only one major crisis away from that happening.

Amen-I think the "reasons" are for lawless behavior and the fact that these are people that are "NUTS" and or Criminals; taking advantage of resent events. Remember, less that 1% of all law Enforcement Personnel are involved in misconduct in this Country and our administration(s) way into an incident long before all the evidence is heard by the Grand Jury where it occurred eg Furgeson, Baltimore, Boston, NYCity etc. The "Thin Blue Line" must stand strong! "Police Protect People" They have Rights too!

This is the result of Democrat/liberal style governing.

Obama has pretty much endorsed this growing wave of lawlessness in society. He is a pathetic disgrace.

I'm sure it'll get much worse in the near future with how rapidly this Democrat promoted anarchy is growing.

Well said Boston

kevCopAz @ 9/7/2015 1:10 PM

Agreed! If Obama cared he would show up at some of (one of!) these police funerals. He makes sure that a white house slug is sent to ALL funerals of persons killed by PD

westcoastleo @ 9/7/2015 1:19 PM

Obama has done more than any other president to tear down the walls between the public and law enforcement than any other president before him. It is obvious to many in and outside of the law enforcement community that he has his own views about the police. None of his views are good. Im sure as a young "Black" growing up he had a negative contact and this is his way of "repairing" the scar. Obama has also done more than any other president to tear down the race relations between whites and blacks in this country. Obama is a coward and uses his power to press his views on our nation and if you "don't" agree with his "views" he will sick the dogs of his "Federal Police" on you even if you are a hard working local law officer.
As Nazi minister of propaganda, Joseph Goebbels once said in 1933, "If you continue to tell the lie to the people, eventually they will believe it"

cwardlaw @ 9/7/2015 1:38 PM

The reason Obama wasn't at Deputy Darren Goforth's funeral was the same reason he wasn't at Lieutenant Joe Gliniewicz's, Officers Steven Vincent, Rafael Ramos, Wenjian Liu, etc is because he absolutely does not care. He showed the country what his feelings are on law enforcement way back with the Cambridge PD incident and he's gotten bolder with showing them. He's given the same treatment to the military and did so after the first Brigadier General since Vietnam was killed in Afghanistan in 2014. Obama has systematically torn every fiber of this great country apart from religion, monetary class, race, private business, sexual orientation and now law enforcement. All we can do is to continue doing our careers by the law because we cannot let the jobless, government check getting, thieving, dope using, cowardly thug trash take over. If they do, the street level officers will be the ones that have to clean it up. Stay strong on use of force and always stay one level above the offender.

Sheriff Mike Pigg @ 9/7/2015 3:12 PM

President Obama nor any of his administration attended Deputy Goforth's or Abilene Texas Police Officer Don Allen's funeral because he doesn't want to be seen by America as being a president who unifies this country. It does not matter what the color of the officer’s skin is or the color of the criminal's skin is. A crime was committed and it was committed against all of the law-abiding citizens of this great country. President Obama please don't say you support us and not show us the decency you have shown others in the past who don't wear the uniform and protect the people and keep them safe, even if it means they give their life in the process.

Leonard Mather @ 9/7/2015 7:18 PM

Obama is walking to the beat of a different drummer. He is in the back pocket of CAIR which is an entity of The Muslim Brotherhood. He has Al Sharpton in the White House advising him. He shamelessly will NOT use the words "Islamic Terrorism. He uses inappropriate semantics for the Ft. Hood Islamic Terrorism by calling it Workplace Violence. He has failed to support LEO's and to recognize their unconscionable denigration by Attorney Mosby in Baltimore. Instead of seizing at this opportunity to offer support for LEO's, he has backed off and weakened what should have been strengthened. It is time for a CHANGE!

Adrian Stroud @ 9/8/2015 12:12 AM

Good for you Jerry. Like you said their silence is deafening.

deputy moose @ 9/8/2015 5:42 AM

There is much I could say about this corrupt regime, however it would not make it past this site's censors. We are no longer a nation of laws, but a nation of men.

Kevin @ 9/8/2015 5:51 AM

Would anyone expect anything different from this so-called leader of our country? He leads this country the way he lead Chicago. Criminal element with a total disregard for the law and human life in general. That is the liberal way. Create a class of folks that depend on handouts and you have ultimate control.

TBOW426 @ 9/8/2015 7:40 AM

I agree with most everything said concerning Obama and his attitude toward law enforcement. I do have to disagree about the criticism for not attending an officer(s) funeral. If I was the agency head for any of the departments that have lost officers (big or small) I would not want him or Biden there. Those agencies are under enough stress dealing with their loss without the added burden/ stress planning for a visit from POTUS. STAY AWAY.

Ron Martinelli @ 9/8/2015 9:36 AM

The Boston POA is absolutely taking the right course of action in boycotting POTUS Obama's speech. This President is a train wreck with respect to his knowledge and understanding of police practices, constitutional law and forensic investigations. It's not that he's a stupid man; it's that quite simply he despises cops. All of his decisions are based upon race, rather than forensic facts. He has never been; nor will he ever be a supporter of law enforcement or the Rule of Law. His last 6 years in office has shown us that. As a retired LEO and now a forensic criminologist and medical investigator who directs a team of investigators involved in many of the nation's high-profile officer-involved death cases, I am disgusted by this President's pedantic attitude and lack of support for those who risk their lives daily to protect the lives and civil rights of others. Obama in large part created the Black Lives Matter movement and in the end, this will be his legacy within the LE community.

LEO (RET) @ 9/8/2015 12:31 PM

Congrats New England Police Union for taking a stand for all of Law Enforcement. I never thought that I would live to see one man hell bent on becoming the architect of destruction, destroying our great country on a daily basis from within. Stay strong and stay safe Big Blue. May God Bless and protect all Law Enforcement. Amen

Kojack8 @ 9/9/2015 4:11 AM

President Obama does not care about the American people. He fails to protect our embassies with Marine detachments like we use to have instead utilizing private security that has no clue on international engagement rules. His secretary of state Hillary told our military to stand down instead of rescuing American citizens and his ambassador. They wrote them off. He does not care and should be held accountable.

Indydep @ 9/11/2015 5:56 AM

I will be glad when the president term is over so I can see who will be blamed for the lack of support for law enforcement next. It's obvious this nation wide issue. I don't agree with all of the president's policies, and it is unfortunate he doesn't attend all of the funerals of our fallen brothers and sisters, because that would be the way all of his time would be spent, especially at the rate that officers are being killed. We all know what needs to be done, yet we have to come up with a way to make our voices heard.
