VIDEO: Missouri Officer Killed in Highway Accident on Way to Work

An off-duty Bellefontaine Neighbors, Mo., police sergeant died after being struck by a vehicle in north St. Louis County Monday morning, according to authorities.

Just before 8 a.m., Peggy Vassallo, 53, who was an off-duty sergeant dressed in full uniform and heading to work, was involved in a minor accident in the area of Highway 67 and Old Jamestown Road. When Vassallo exited her personal vehicle to talk to the other driver, she was struck by another vehicle.

Vassallo was taken to the hospital where she later died, KMOV TV reports.

I knew and worked your brother (the late P.O. Tim Kaelin). He was a stand up guy. God bless you and your family during this time of sorrow. I will continue to pray for you all.

It looks like she should have stayed in her vehicle until some marked units got there. On the other side of the coin it would be interesting to know what that other driver was doing at the time she was struck. Condolences to Sgt. Vassalo's family and the Bellefontaine Neighbors Police Dept. Rest in Peace Sgt. Vassalo.

This is no time to say she should've stayed in her vehicle. C'mon man. Really? She more than likely exited her vehicle to see if anyone else was injured. After all she was in full uniform!! May you R.I.P. Sgt., and God bless.

My DEEP Condolences and Prayers to the Family. I knew this lady through her donut shop in Hazelwood, I also know one of Her sisters. Her mother needs everyone to pray for her to have strength as she has dealt with the loss of her some of her other children and husband in not to distant past. Love and Prayers.

I have to wonder if she was targeted. Condolences to the Officer and her family.
