A Savannah-Chatham (Ga.) Metropolitan Police officer is credited with rescuing two people from a burning home on Saturday.

Advanced Police Officer Robert Whitfield, a Mounted Patrol officer, was on his way into work just before 7 p.m. when he noticed a house on fire in the 1400 block of Old Grove Point Rd.

One of the homeowners was standing outside and she advised Whitfield that her 70-year-old husband and her 42-year-old daughter were still inside.

APO Whitfield went inside the smoke-filled residence and led both people to safety.
