VIDEO: Suspect Shot After Opening Fire on Officers Following Ferguson Protest

Shots rang out late Sunday night during a march in Ferguson, Mo., to mark the one-year anniversary of the death of Michael Brown when two men engaged in a gunfight and one of the men reportedly opened fire on an SUV full of plainclothes police officers. The officers returned fire and critically wounding the gunman after a foot pursuit.

The shooting occurred around 11:10 p.m. in the 9200 block of West Florissant, from a section on the street north of the police and protesters’ position near the Ferguson Market.

Police said two people exchanged gunfire from across West Florissant. Officers in an unmarked vehicle drove toward one of those individuals, identified as Harris. Harris then allegedly opened fire on officers in that unmarked vehicle. The officers got out of the vehicle and chased Harris on foot behind a business in the 9200 block of West Florissant. Harris attempted to fire at the officers again, but was shot.

A 9mm handgun was recovered at the scene. It had previously been reported stolen out of Cape Girardeau.

Family members tell Fox 2 St. Louis the person wounded in the police shooting is 18-year-old Tyrone Harris.

Prosecutors have filed 10 counts Tyrone Harris. The New York Times reports the office of St. Louis County Prosecutor Bob McCulloch on Monday announced charges that include five counts of armed criminal action, four counts of first-degree assault on a law enforcement officer and one firearms charge. All 10 charges are felonies.

Harris remains hospitalized following surgery. Police say his condition is critical.

What seems to be the problem Ferguson? From what I have read and heard most if not all the officers there are black so wherein lies the problem? Sharpton must be in town again because he doesn't care black or white if you have a police uniform on you are a target.

Gee I thought that everything in Ferguson would be like Heaven now that the evil white PD Chief and Mayor were replaced by Black folks. When will people learn, color doesn't matter this is between people who do the right thing and those that do not. A criminal or trouble maker is just that, Black,White, or any other Race or color combination. This is Right Vs Wrong, Good Vs Evil. NOT RACE vs RACE.

Keep up the good work police officers. Everyone backs you except thugs and thug parents, the neighborhood criminals and low life's. Do your job, don't hesitate and go home after your shift.
