VIDEO: 8 Killed in Chicago Over Weekend, Superintendent Says 'We Will Not Relent'

Nearing the end of a particularly violent Fourth of July weekend, Chicago Police Supt. Garry McCarthy said his department "will not relent," reports NBC Chicago.

McCarthy called a press conference Sunday afternoon to address the weekend violence, in which eight people died, including a 7-year-old boy, and another 41 were injured in shootings since Thursday night.

Despite the high number of shootings, McCarthy applauded the officers for working 12-hour tours and the department for taking the "extraordinary step" of employing 30% more officers on the streets than usual. He also said that he himself was out patrolling the streets until the early hours of Sunday.

"We're doing everything we can to fight this," McCarthy said. "We need to repair a broken system."

Chicago is home to the most severe, draconian, anti-gun laws in the nation. Despite this, they have a field day shooting each other, and the politico's continue to call for and pass more anti-gun laws. A bright man once said "doing the same thing over and over, and expecting different results is a definition of insanity". When are they going to admit that the only thing that will achieve their goals is total confiscation? That is their ultimate goal, and in this country is unattainable. Even if the honest people turned their guns in, the dishonest people will not. That would be a hell of a mess, but the liberals are dragging us headlong toward it.

The father of the 7-yr. old that was shot, was the intended victim in this shooting. He has a rap sheet over 45 entries long, and is not cooperating with the police. He drove his son to the hospital, telling him on the way that "it's cool". The son agreed. He died "cool". When being cool is more important than dying, it's small wonder why we can't reach these people.

Chicago has a severe gang problem that has gone on now for generations. I suspect that is behind much of the violence. Illinois now has concealed carry permits, one of the last states to do so. While the mayor and other politicians may call for more gun control, what's needed is a realistic approach to the gang problem.

It would have been more accurate to state we will not relent from being governed by stupid liberals, therefore, the killings will continue. No doubt the liberals will want more gun laws yet it is obvious to anyone who is not liberal or brain dead, that the gang bangers and assorted scum bags in Chicago do not bother or worry about gun laws, past, present or future.

Seems to me that Chicago is the President's home town. That is ironic.

Ex-NYPD, Ex Newark NJ Police Garry McCarthy is known as McHatchetman to the Chicago Police Department. He is the worst thing to happen to the CPD since the 1918 Spanish Flu and the Haymarket Riots. He was brought in by Mayor Rahm Emanuel to cut the costs of the CPD and has cut personnel, efficiency, morale and most importantly service to the citizens.

Just when you think things can't get any worse something like this happens. But as long as costs continue to be cut he will be Rahm's Golden Boy.

Unfortunately the loyalty to his gang was more valuable than the loyalty and love for his son. Individuals like that i have zero tolerance for and to not cooperate with the police is another pile of dirt he can throw on top of his son's casket. U see in the gang world as I'm sure most LE know that this man won't talk to the police because its selling out! So he'd rather take matters of revenge into his own hands. And i can promise you its going to be ugly and the father will lose his life...My hats off to Chicago PD, they have their work cut out for them something fierce.

KevCopAz @ 7/7/2015 2:25 PM

wow, brothers you said it all! McCarthy is a stain on police work, needs to resign and get a real cop in there that not only has earned the respect of his cops (which McCarthy has not) but can lead and not be pulled by his nose ring around by a LIB Mayor and council who always blame the "guns" and not the Gangs, which are the real problem, as well as the do nothing parents who let the streets raise their kids. All one has to do ,even in Chicago, is to look at which neighborhood this is going on, what "color"are the suspects and the victims and then tell the world its guns and not gangs and a Black community that cares more about what they can get from "the man" then raising their kids and fighting the criminals that are such a small min gritty of that community but are allowed by the Libs and the Black community to run wild. You know thats true and so does every responsible Black person in Chicago. Stop blaming others, stop blaming guns and do something to stop it yourself.

I worked in the South Bronx, as a police officer, and worked with Garry McCarthy. I found him to be an obnoxious , arrogant, ass. He has proved this when he was arrested in NJ after parking his police take home vehicle in a handicap parking space at a rest stop on the Palisades Pkwy. It was his obnoxious arrogance that got him arrested when a good intentioned NJ police officer confronted McCarthy about not having a handicap parking permit. That same obnoxious arrogant attitude persists with the style of policing he has brought to Chicago PD. McCarthy would have America believe that the continual blood bath and innocent children being killed in Chicago is linked to the lobbying efforts and fault of the of NRA. Meanwhile, Chicago has some of the toughest gun laws in the USA? Tell us all Garry, how is that possible? You have your head so far up your ass that Chicago' best Cracker Jack detectives can not find it!
