Crowd Assaults Florida Officer During Arrest

May 25, 2015  |

An officer was assaulted by a crowd as he attempted to arrest a Melbourne, Fla., man who police believe had violated a city ordinance just after midnight on Monday, Melbourne Police say.

As an officer approached 22-year-old Phoenix Chansler Low to inform him of the violation, he became combative against the officer and ignored their instructions, according to Melbourne Police.

Police say that while the officer was trying to handcuff Low, a crowd surrounded the officer and began to interfere with Low's arrest by yelling, striking and pulling at both the officer and Low. At that point, the officer feared for his safety and utilized less-lethal force toward the crowd, Florida Today reports.

Low is charged with battery on a law enforcement officer, resisting with violence, resisting without violence and having an open container of alcohol.

Excellent job. Great use of OC. Way to keep your head on straight, control an unruly crowd, and effect an an arrest. Bravo brother

ONE OFFICER AGAINST A HUNDRED OR MORE ANTI POLICE, LAW ABIDING CITIZENS. SOUNDS LIKE POLICE BRUTALITY TO ME. LET'S CONVENE A GRAND JURY. AND MAYBE CALL IN THE FBI. COME ON MAYOR, COVER THE USELESS ASS OF YOURS.

GP Cobb @ 5/25/2015 10:40 PM

Seems like it's coming to that doesn't it?

132&Bush: The older I get the more I think that would be about the only solution to put a stop to these out of control fools. Probably a good thing I am retired.

and or wont support cops. NOW with the Media and all the anti cop rhetoric going on its plain to see that people feel its OK, its "justified" to resist arrest that they "feel" is wrong, even brave to insult, mistreat and attack the police. Words HAVE meaning, the ":word" now from Media is that we are the enemy, the fall guys(gals) for all the perceived inequality and "unfairness" around. Essentially the police have become the scape goats for the ineffective politicians that govern and then we were kicked under the bus by the very same politicians when the heat got turned up.

Society better wake up. If we stop doing what we do, all will suffer. You look a t history, when the cops turned on the ruling class (Kings, Czars etc) what was the result? Chaos and societal break down. People wake up this is coming, keep treating us this way and then don't be surprised when the "dog" (Police) bites you back.

Actually feel stupid for the remark...but you know there it is going to happen. One officer against a crowd, once he is on the ground and starts getting kicked....the gun is going to have to go bang...

Probably a good thing that I am retired too because I was thinking the same thing. The crowd can do whatever they like but the officer can't even defend himself without criticism from the far left and beyond.
