2 Mississippi Officers Slain at Traffic Stop, Suspects in Custody

May 10, 2015  |

The shooting death of two Hattiesburg, Mississippi, police officers Saturday night during a traffic stop in Hattiesburg prompted a statewide manhunt that led to the arrests of three suspects, according to officials.

Officer Benjamin Deen had stopped a 2000 Gold Cadillac Escalade in an industrial part of the city at around 8:30 p.m. local time Saturday, Warren Strain, a spokesman for the Mississippi Department of Public Safety told Fox News. Officer Liquori Tate arrived afterward to assist him, shots were fired, and both officers were wounded.

Sad, very sad. I wonder how much major media coverage this will receive, will our National leadership comment, what about Sharpton?

SBS @ 5/10/2015 8:44 AM

End of Tour......RIP

Concerned @ 5/10/2015 9:10 AM

Where is Al Sharpton now? The officers probably hesitated because the perps were black and it cost th there life.

RDG @ 5/10/2015 9:10 AM

Where is the news coverage at now.......murdered by thugs and no question about it

Tony R, Hansley @ 5/10/2015 9:16 AM

Good that they got these criminals off the street for their savagery

Kojack58 @ 5/10/2015 11:11 AM

Okay enough is enough. Conduct a trial get a guilty verdict with the evidence and take these suspects out and hang them in the square so people can see what happens to subjects that kill police officers that protect the public.

Stephen @ 5/10/2015 11:51 AM

The climate has been set for open season on LEO's.

UncleMike @ 5/10/2015 1:06 PM

This crap needs to be brought to a halt.
Two more fine Officers are slaughtered because a couple of punk thugs feel empowered to do whatever the Hell they want to do.
These sorry ass excuses for humans don't even care that they've murdered a Black Man. He was just another Cop to them.

coplivesmatter @ 5/10/2015 1:50 PM

Cop Lives Matter Too! Where are the protests? Where are the talking heads, seeking "Justice" for the fallen victim(s)? Where is the president, and his concern and outrage? Maybe we a cops should consider taking to the streets in an organized natonwide protest of our own or in the alternative, perhaps it is time for an old school tactic of a nationwidewide "Blueflu"? It worked in the past to get the point accross that "Police Lives Matter Too"!

p2dawg @ 5/10/2015 3:40 PM

He was just another cop to them as he was to us and the rest of the world. We all bleed blue. All lives matter.

kevCopAz @ 5/10/2015 6:42 PM

Agreed this is very sad. Even if you can not directly link these deaths to some of the current social conditions, you can certainly link them to the retrace that the anti-police folks spot off. This anti cop, all cops are bad etc etc when accepted by socially emboldens these criminals to do what they do. The next time that you hear a LIB talking smack about Law Enforcement, don't let it go even if they are family or friends. They need to know that this is all Media and anti cop B.S. and that the true facts are opposite! Don't let them spout off, ask them for facts not "feelings" etc, make them stand up and back up what they say. We all know that they wont, simply because they can't! There are no facts to back them up!. They are just mouth breathers with no brains and no critical thinking. Ask them that if they thought they were correct, then why would they call the police? Just stop calling us if you feel that way and see if Al Sharpton, or Mayor Deblasio come to help!

Jeff Miloro @ 5/10/2015 8:27 PM

Two brave officers (HEROES) who had many choices in life but wanted to simply keep people safe from the predators amongst us. Fallen heroes...fallen warriors, knights tasked to protect us all. In Mississippi, and New York, and across the country this of all weeks we must honor these noble men and women who made such a sacrificed for us all. If I could barrow a small part of one of one of my favorite patriotic songs:

O beautiful for heroes proved In liberating strife,
Who more than self their country loved,
And mercy more than life!
America! America! May God thy gold refine
Till all success be nobleness,
And ev’ry gain divine!

I would hope, although I know naïve, that those who would march and protest with banners stating "black lives matter" would remember as well, brave Office Tate. And even more naïve, for them to realize that we who where the uniform also believe what black live matter, that ALL LIVES MATTER.

just here to help @ 5/10/2015 8:34 PM

Tragic
Veteran officer with a family, and a brave young man just staring out.
Tragic

G.SMITH @ 5/10/2015 8:54 PM

OH THERE'S MORE THAN A COUPLE OF PUNK THUGS IN FACT THERE ARE FAR MORE THUGS THAN POLICE OFFICERS BUT UNTIL THE CRIME GETS THE PUNISHMENT IT DESERVES THE THUGS WON'T EVEN THINK TWICE.
BUILD A TWO STORY DECK IN FRONT OF THE WHITE HOUSE AND HOLD PUBLIC EXECUTIONS BY HANGING AND YOU WILL BEGIN TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE NOT 30 YEARS OF STATE FUNDED REC TIME IN SOME PRISON THAT'S NICER THAN MOST SCHOOLS. I WOULD HAVE TO MAKE 50,000.00 A YEAR IN ORDER TO LIVE LIKE AN INMATE. WHY NOT INCLUDE SECURITY AND CORRECTIONAL OFFICERS IN THE YEARLY ENFORCEMENT DEATH TOLL?

Rob @ 5/11/2015 5:01 AM

Yep, "Black Lives Matter" unless that black life belongs to a law enforcement officer. Blue Lives Matter, do not hesitate!

notmeofficer @ 5/11/2015 5:50 AM

Let us hope the appropriate use of justice occurs... and after a fair trial the correct application of the death penalty occurs before the officers children are grown.
As many have said the death penalty will stop these killers from ever repeating .

It will get worse before it gets better...

J. Riddick @ 5/11/2015 8:25 AM

All lives matter!!! And yes police work is dangerous and he who hesitates can pay a price for that...But by the same token, it is incumbent upon all of us to take up the challenge of making a better world...I was in NY recently and encountered by chance (cause White folk, and Black and Hispanic folk still don't really know each other and most of us still only have a hand full of white, black or Hispanic friends...outside our respective ethnicity) the nicest human being and was startled that he was wearing a 'blue uniform" and even more so, that he was Caucasian...we had a warm human moment...I was "raised right" and apparently he was to...we have got to find a way to raise our children so that they don't want to harm others, whether they wear a uniform or not...We have got to get back to teaching morals and values to our young..."thou shall not kill, or steal"...Do right when no one is watching...Respect others...We got to stop giving our children the wrong message...

RDG @ 5/11/2015 11:47 AM

Would not have heard anything about it if not for police magazine. .....guess cnn or fox don't care about this one

Another Donut Please @ 5/11/2015 7:39 PM

Nothing else to add but all four arrested are pieces of crap that aren't worthy of being stuck to the shoes of a police officer.

Deonis @ 5/11/2015 9:35 PM

Is this really about Al Sharpton or two murdered officers? And to Kojack58 to suggest any hanging of any man including black men is degrading and offensive as it reflects our horrible history. The point of the matter is simple..we live in a wicked and evil world where blacks, whites, officers, children, etc are being killed by heartless people. To make this a black & white issue only dishonors the officers slang. Yes I agree these criminals should go thru the justice system like anyone else and be found guilty of all charges. How can his entire community heal if we judge everyone but ourselves. We all play a part in this. Unfortunately more lives will be lossed be it by officers or to officers. Criminals where their pants sagging and some where badges. The list goes on..., but if we're ever going to resolve any of this hateful foolishness, IT STARTS WITH US! All this fear and inferiority and stereotypical nonsense is played out! Lives are being altered on both ends......Enough!!!!!!!!

S.S. @ 5/14/2015 8:55 AM

Horrible and sad tragedy. All of the healing you're talking about WILL NOT happen because of the so-called black leaders, sharpton, jackson, holder, and yes especially obama. This plus the liberal media definately does not care about us L.E.O.S. Now these liberal media morons are not gonna report much more on this. It's up to us as L.E.O.S. stick together and watch each other's back. Don't let these officer's deaths to have died in vain, not just these two fine officers, but nation wide. Officer's deaths are on the rise, and YES it is getting worse out there. Watch your 6.
