VIDEO: N.C. Officer Shot in Stomach, Discharged from Hospital

Cornelius, N.C., officials gathered Monday morning to update the community on the condition of Lt. James Quattlebaum, who was shot in the stomach by a 16-year-old Saturday.

Cornelius Mayor Chuck Travis said he had just come from Lt. Quattlebaum’s room at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte and told Channel 9 that the officer was “feeling great."

He was released from the hospital early Monday afternoon.

Quattlebaum was shot late Saturday morning responding to a domestic call at 19422 Coachman’s Trace just off Washam Potts. Sixteen-year-old Greyson Ferrell is facing multiple charges including attempted first-degree murder.

The chief said investigators believe Ferrell, who was wearing a ballistic vest, intended to ambush Quattlebaum.

And we all thought that Ballistic vests were off limits to the general public. Imagine that. The officer responds to a domestic and one of the participants has on a vest. That should tell us something bad is about to happen. A very speedy recovery to you Officer Quattlebaum.
