San Francisco Officers Face Termination Over Racist and Homophobic Texts

April 03, 2015  |

San Francisco Police Chief Greg Suhr was contrite Thursday about the racist text messages sent by officers during remarks to the Board of Supervisors’ public safety committee and said “there will be more than a few officers” referred for termination.

“I cannot un-ring the bell on these texts,” Suhr said.

By the end of the week, the department will have finished its report on the 14 officers being investigated for sending racist and homophobic text messages, Suhr said. As part of the investigation, their personal history questionnaires were audited “to see if there is a red flag common denominator,” the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

San Francisco's demographics are well known. Don't work in the orchard if you can't stand the fruit.

Most agencies with Mobile Data terminals allow Officers to instant message each other. Everything on public service systems is open to public review at any time. The Hand Held Radio's with the built in telephone patch also are recorded at Headquarters. I have heard many an officer use that call system to contact his wife and tell her he's working late then call his girlfriend to say he is coming over. Everything used in the line of duty is open to public inspection, how stupid can these guys be? With all the cameras everywhere today, I would act like I was being recorded every time I spoke with anyone including other cops. Private conversations are gone with the new cell phone technology. Everybody is looking for the next internet sensation and erring on the side of caution is prudent. Self stupidity will cost many their jobs and many have already discovered this.

As with all of history too many guys are thinking with the wrong head.
