Memphis Officer Shot, Suspect in Custody

Armour saw a ‘person of interest’ and began following him. When the two vehicles stopped, Armour identified himself as an officer and was shot.

A Memphis police officer was shot just before noon Thursday in the 900 block of Hester in the Whitehaven area.

Robert Armour, who is with the Organized Crime Unit, was shot in the leg while responding to a report of drug activity.

Armour saw a ‘person of interest’ and began following him. When the two vehicles stopped, Armour identified himself as an officer and was shot, WREG TV reports.

The officer was taken to the Regional Medical Center in critical condition but has been upgraded to stable.

Police chased the suspect, Daniel Jefferson,  until he was taken into custody in the 1600 block of Kirkwood.
