Ferguson Police Chief Resigns

March 11, 2015  |

Police Chief Thomas Jackson has resigned from the Ferguson (Mo.) Police Department effective March 19, the Post-Dispatch has learned.

Sources say Lt. Col. Al Eickhoff will be appointed as the department's interim chief until a national search for a permanent chief can be conducted.

Jackson, 57, is the sixth city employee to leave in the wake of a scathing federal Department of Justice report that alleged racist police and court practices that aim only to raise the city's revenue instead of protecting its citizens.

In an exclusive interview, Jackson said he felt it was time for the city to move on.

"I believe this is the appropriate thing to do at this time," Jackson said. "This city needs to move forward without any distractions."

The entire police department should be desolved and taken over by National Guard.

The looters and vandals got their way. The media made money selling advertising. The family made money selling t-shirts, even though Hands-Up don't Shoot doesn't apply to Ferguson anymore. Now everyone is being asked or forced to leave because of this debacle. What has this world come to? Sad, sad day when the disenfranchised feel stealing weaves and tiger nails is ok because a man was shot trying to fight a cop. Their skewed justification and lack of empathy for the poor store owners is despicable. One of the greatest traits that separate humans from some of their four legged cousins is empathy, some animals don't have any. The more intelligent of our cousins do.

Yet another victim of federal harassment and threats. The racist Holder couldn't find any excuse to charge the officer so he turned his venom on the whole department. Holder, the most racist and crooked AG in history, has no moral standing to criticize anyone else.

Ferguson has become a microcosm of chaos, confusion, bigotry, reverse discrimination, opportunistic looting and serendipity allowing for illogic, while the rule of law failed. It failed because locals were afraid to testify truthfully in supporting Officer Wilson when the "Hands up" fantasy was falsely published by the media. Dumping this imbroglio on Holder is like giving a person one swatch of toilet paper to clean up the contents of the outhouse. Resigning LEO's makes sense in order to preserve their sanity. The lesson to be learned from Ferguson is: Cooperate with the orders of a LEO. Comply with orders. Do NOT resist, fight or obstruct. After the event(s) if you feel unfairly treated, then and only then file a complaint. Since this advice makes sense, half-wits, dimiwits, Perps, and ne'er-do/wells will not understand it.

You know who has escaped the wrath in this whole mess is the Mo Legislature, they undermine the cities, cut sources of revenue and then tell the Cities and probably the Counties, you figure it out.
The arrest of poor, black, other minority people was a cash cow, but I bet the people in the county or the state don't want to pay for all the services they WANT..This is not a new issue..

Holder and crew, in their attempt to shape this dept into their idea of fairness, will likely create the risk averse Ferguson PD. Officers that can leave or retire will do so which will mean it will become more and more junior in seniority. This is not good when one understands that there is no substitute for experience in law enforcement. When the citizens refuse to support their officers, they shouldn't be too surprised when the officers have little or no attachment to the city. New officers coming and going with little experience or laterals from other departments, who may bring baggage with them, will fill the rosters. Predominately, the black community led by the likes of Sharpton and Holder, will leap what they have sown. It is sad and shameful that Holder has been successful in ultimately destroying this dept based on the BS assertion of hands up, don't shoot and his attempt to put his thumb on the scale of justice against Officer Wilson.

I agree. The whole department should be dissolved. However, it should not be replaced. I think Americans, as a whole, are tired of law enforcement officers. Let's just keep firemen.
If we could only get rid of LE of all shapes, sizes, and colors; then society would be better. Everyone would behave. No one would break laws. No more officers would have to suffer criminal attack, or legal attack for defending themselves.
Everyone could just take care of themselves. But there would be no need for them to as there would be no more rapes, robberies, thefts, disturbances, petty complaints among neighbors, kidnappings, drug dealers...or anything. All of which are caused by white officers. I learned that in Cultural Diversity training mandated by the State.
If only America would just say "No". No more police. No more law enforcement.
Have a problem? Don't call a cop, just live with it. The problem with racist LE, gone.

GP Cobb @ 3/11/2015 6:38 PM

To Socialist Dan, I don't think so...........

Bob @ 3/11/2015 7:03 PM

"National Search" Who in their right mind would take the position with DOJ camped out on the department's door step in addition to all the other problems facing the department including what has to be a nearly non-existent tax base.

Nightstalker @ 3/11/2015 8:27 PM

Sad!!!!

Lt. HAMILTON @ 3/12/2015 8:16 PM

Maybe HOLDER should take the post and don't give him a firearm either. That way he won't have to worry about being racist and shooting a white unarmed little boy while he is walking home from a convenience store after buying skittles. Cause that's why the POLICE shoot people anyway right??? What a joke. He needs to shut his mouth and let the real Police do their jobs. He wouldn't last ten minutes on the street.
Sorry Chief that your career has to end this way after dedicating your life to keeping people safe and actually caring about the citizens.
If that sounds like a personal attack against HOLDER and against your policy then succumb to the pressure like everyone else and be politically correct and delete my post and I'll never buy another product advertised in your magazine and I'll send a letter to every one of them and tell them why.

Night Jack @ 3/12/2015 9:29 PM

Did you ever stop and think there's more arrest of black citizens here and more citations issued to black citizen due to the higher population of blacks, and not because it's racism?
