Deputy U.S. Marshal Josie Wells died after he was shot Tuesday morning in Scotlandville, La., near Baton Rouge while executing a warrant on a double homicide suspect.

Pointe Coupee Sheriff Bud Torres, who was at the scene of the shooting, said the marshal and others had been looking for Jamie D. Croom, a 31-year-old man who was wanted in the double murder of a brother and sister outside a New Roads nightclub the morning after Mardi Gras, reports the Advocate.

Croom is suspected of shooting the deputy marshal, Torres said, and was also shot and taken to a hospital.

Kevin Harrison, the U.S. Marshal for the Baton Rouge area, said the deputy marshal was "gravely wounded" while executing a warrant on Croom. The marshal was from Mississippi.

The FBI and Baton Rouge Police Department will conduct a joint investigation into the shooting.

Our thoughts and prayers to the immediate family- and, to the law enforcement
'family' in yet another officer killed - that serves and protects us from the scum of the earth.
I am absolutely sick of hearing and/or reading about this ''problem'' that is hap-pening all over the U.S. Yes, I know it's a problem all over the world, but I want
to know what I can do to help OUR GUYS here in the U.S.
I'm 66 years old and retired, but I'm still an expert marksman with a weapon -
I'm thinking of a rifle with a scope in this particular area of discussion.
My idea is, how about sending a sniper 'out' ahead of the officer(s) 'destination'-
and be in place - to hopefully, prevent another unfortunate event.
I'm no wacko or wanna be cop - or anything like that, I just want to help!!
By the way, my ''handle'' is way before Chuck Norris's time.

"Croom is suspected of shooting the deputy marshal, Torres said, and was also shot and taken to a hospital." Taken to a hospital?? Apparently they didn't shoot him enough times.

In todays society to take a life is nothing to these low life criminals. I pray everyday that when the law enforcement personnel have to leave their families that the Lord keep them safe from all hurt, harm and danger seen and unseen. My prayers to family and the U.S. Marshal Division of Scotlandville.
