VIDEO: Sheriff Arpaio Invites Sharpton to Undergo Use-of-Force Scenario

Sheriff Joe Arpaio of Maricopa County, Ariz., wants to ask the Rev. Al Sharpton to come to Arizona and take part in a use-of-force drill, after doing so changed the opinion of a local activist critical of police, reports KSAZ.

"Let's come on down here, I think you are the prime guy to do this and learn a lesson," said Sheriff Joe Arpaio. "Yeah, Al, I haven't seen you in a while, we could talk in my office and we'll put you through the scenario. We had two cops who were killed in New York City, assassinated."

To his credit, Rev. Sharpton did not say no to the sheriff's invitation. His director of communications provided this statement from the civil rights activist: "Despite our differences on immigration, I am all for working with the sheriff to try to find some ground on proper policing."

I'd pay good money to watch!

Pertinent to issue, methinks.

eodk9trainer @ 1/14/2015 4:19 AM

He won't show. He knows he's wrong (Al) on many subjects and will not want to be proven wrong in public.

Kevin S. @ 1/14/2015 4:29 AM

I agree. Sharpton will not want to be put through any scenario that will prove him wrong. Police have a fraction of a second to make a life or death decision. The rest of the world has forever to be critical of that decision. I say get the liberal media involved in some of this training also.

[email protected] @ 1/14/2015 5:41 AM

I would like all of the public to try this but since they have nothing to lose they won't get the full impact of their decision but it is a great idea.

Really? @ 1/14/2015 6:10 AM

Sharpton has a big mouth, and needs to be put in his place. Sharpton has no business telling anyone how to do anything. He needs to shut his bigoted, racist, rabble-rousing mouth.

Really? @ 1/14/2015 6:21 AM

Sharpton has a big mouth. He is judgemental , and racist.

Congrats to Sheriff Arpaio to make the offer. I viewed to first video and it was great. Thanks again Sheriff.

kevCopAz @ 1/14/2015 10:24 AM

Not a big Joe fan (other then as a jailer) but YEAH JOE, WAY TO GO! All for nought, Im sure that Sharpton would never even think of doing that, even if he did he would not change his mind, that would cost him $$$!. We had a local NACCP Rev Moffon do just that and he shot an unarmed w/m. I have to give it to the Rev., he tried, he failed and changed his stance a bit after that saying folks should "comply"
when ordered to do so by police. This is a true responsible person who tried and did see the other side. Unlike the $ grubbing, race baiting Sharpton. He is a loud mouth punk who is afraid to take this challenge.

For Guy @ 1/14/2015 11:27 AM

Why confuse Sharpton with facts or reality. No such thing as a split second decision in his scripted world.

Latonya Jefferson @ 1/14/2015 1:36 PM

Al-The-Bigot doesn't have the integrity to take up Sheriff Joe's offer.

I went through this course in the early 1990s at the Wyoming Law Enforcement Academy. It was a real eye opener. I seriously doubt that any media persons could even come close to passing the course. Thanks to Sheriff Arpaio for challenging Mr. Sharpton to doing this.

Former MN state trooper @ 1/14/2015 9:06 PM

Sharpton talks a good game but when it comes down to walk-the-walk, he will find a convenient excuse not to take up Sheriff Arpaio's request. Sharpton is all talk and his greatest admirer is HIMSELF. I would like to see Sharpton take the challenge because he will fail miserably.

Leonard Mather @ 1/17/2015 1:39 PM

Sharpton has met his match in this one. Sheriff Joe has called Sharpton's hand. Sharpton knows he can put a spin on the invitation that would turn out to be a win-win for both parties. Based on that alone, it is insufficient for Al to use his time WITHOUT polarization. Al wants BIG wins, and Sheriff Joe is going to come out of this one as more of a winner. Hence, Rev Al will find reason to fry his fish elsewhere. In so doing, Sheriff Joe comes out the winner. The Irony here is Providential. Al has met his match. Kudos to Sheriff Joe!
