Speaking for the first time about the officers who turned their backs on him at the funerals of Rafael Ramos and Wenjian Liu, New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio said, "They were disrespectful to the families involved," reports the New York Daily News.

"I can't understand why anyone would do such a thing in the context like that," an angry de Blasio said. "And I think it defies a lot of what we all feel is the right and decent thing to do.

"I also think they were disrespectful to the people of this city, who in fact honor the work of the NYPD," he added.

De Blasio was followed by Police Commissioner Bill Bratton, who branded as "selfish" the hundreds of officers who turned their backs on de Blasio at the Liu funeral on Sunday.

"I share the mayor's concern about the idea of what's effectively a labor action being taken in the middle of a funeral," he said. "I think we need to focus much more on the vast majority who did what was expected rather than the few who embarrassed themselves and effectively took so much attention, so much attention."

Get it straight "Mayor" and Commissioner, the disrespect is for the Mayor and the Mayor alone. This is in return for the disrespect that you (Mayor) have shown all NYPD throughout your political career and especially recently. You opened your mouth, took the side of the cop haters and then you have the balls to claim the NYPD is disrespectful? You are not deserving of any respect from those that are NYPD and they have thew same right as your cop hating friends to express their distort and displeasure with you. You made your political bed now shut up and sleep in it you political, cop hating POS!

Mr. Commissioner, you are well known to be a "cops cop" and I have never had any reason to doubt it until now. You deserve respect for what you have done during your career to build various departments and for the backing that you have always shown for your officers, well until now. For the life of me I can not understand why a person of your caliber would continue to work for and support the likes of your Mayor. The level of respect you have for him is way higher then he deserves. He has tarnished the office he holds, and the reputation of all NYPD. If you were the outstanding Commissioner that you once were you and your staff would hand in your resignations and stop working for someone who undermines you and what your entire department stands for. If you did that, he would be gone. If you did that you would retain the support and admiration of not only the NYPD but all of American Law Enforcement. If you do not, you have fallen greatly in both respect and admiration. Do whats right

De Blasio has yet to "get it." The only person being disrespected was Hizzzzoner as a much needed return for the disrespect he has given every officer in the country - but especially at NYPD. He brings shame and dishonor upon every elected official who has ever served in public office.

With the advantage of being removed from the situation in NY with respect to the actions/words of Mayor de Blasio, it is painfully obvious that he is completely ignorant of the cconcept of action/response and apparently feels that he shoulders no responsibility for anything. Not only did he completely misconstrue the meaning of the NYPD officers' actions, but in typical politico fashion, he now wants himself and others to be thought of as being victimized by the officers' actions? And the words of PC Bratton mean absolutely nothing as he continues to demonstrate that he is nothing more than a minion for the mayor. To Mayor deBlasio, man-up and accept that you caused this "labor action" and fix it!! I truly feel sorry for the members of the NYPD.

No mayor they turned their backs on you not the people.

Mayor de Blasio, the NYPD Officers, and probably thousands more across the northern Continent, turned their backs on you so that both you and LE would be "back to back"! You had ALREADY turned your back on LE with your words prior to and after the deaths of Officers Ramos and Liu. Shame on you!! I'm a 34 year retired Cop from Southern Illinois, and your words were embarrassing to me and thousands more like me. There was NEVER any MORE disrespect shown to Officers Ramos and Liu, than that shown by YOU, Mayor!! Any disrespect by Officers, both there and across this Nation, was intended ENTIRELY for YOU, Mayor, and no one else. Again, shame on you!
