Police Lament, ‘All of a Sudden We’re All Racist Killers’?

December 15, 2014  |

Police in cities across the country are facing an angry backlash from the public after a series of police killings of unarmed African-Americans. But many police think they’re being stereotyped as racist and brutal, reports the Portland Press Herald.

"The idea that police wake up, strap on their guns and pin on their badges, and sit around thinking about how they’re going to make lives miserable in the minority community – that’s just at variance with common sense," said James Pasco, executive director of the Fraternal Order of Police, a national labor union representing rank-and-file officers.

Officers and their families are concerned that antagonism toward police might make them targets of violence or retaliation, Pasco said. They also worry about identity theft and so-called doxxing, in which an individual’s address and contact information are published online as a form of public shaming.

"We pull people out of wrecked cars, we hold people's hands when they're dying, we talk to 5-year-olds when they get raped, and one cop puts a chokehold on somebody and all of a sudden we're all racist killers," said James Glennon, a retired police lieutenant who owns Calibre Press, a company that trains police officers in the use of force.

50 years ago our academy class was studying law and the constitution. The enemy of the day was communism and we learned that they well understood that the way to destroy a government was to first attack and destroy the police. As I watch everything happening today, i shake my head and think "Oh, so that's what they meant".

The police need to ban together and get the unified message out coupled with actions that they are not putting up with the nonsense that is going on today with the professional athletes and others. If they don't, they better get use to being the whipping boy for every goof ball out there that hates the police. That may mean quit providing security for these groups if that is what it takes. It is about time the police start fighting back and standing up for themselves. It will get worse if they don't.

I still believe that every agency in the U.S., & I mean every one, should have the Blue Flu for 1 week. Then see how the tunes would change. I watched people from all races being interviewed from D.C. this weekend. No matter what the facts are they're not going to listen. When they started chanting; Kill the Cops, When, Now it shows it's way out-or-control. Exactly what Sharpton, Obama, & Holder want, too.

People who have any critical thinking skills at all realize that these latest protests are not based upon any hard facts, only "feeling" and hatred towards the police and the establishment in general. The media at large is to blame for the perception that Cops are "bad", they promote know nothing goofs and how they "feel" they are profiles or harassed by police. Never once asking any details about the so called profiling, discrimination or harassment at all. Never fact checking, never even making the person(s) give any details, just "feelings". Well my "feelings", which are based upon 32+ years as a LEO are that these race baiters can all go to hell. All those that think we are all bigoted killers can all kiss my rear end, mainly because none of what they say is based at all on any facts, statistics or anything provable. So why does anyone listen to them! The why ids THE MDIA and how they push that agenda since it "sells". The sad part is all the kno not Liberal fools who join in.

All of a sudden? When I was in high school I spoke to the chief deputy in my county who said nobody loves a Police officer, nobody wants us around until we are needed and then we are too late. It has not changed.

You are obviously an idiot. I don't know if you are really a police officer or not. Don't paint everyone with your brush. I have never once thought, gee let me pull out my gun and kill someone today. I wonder if you are even real. Maybe your just the publications way to infuriate us and get the comments flowing. In any case, if you are an officer, why don't you just do the right thing and quit, or better yet, turn yourself in for whatever murder you've committed. Certainly would get you out of the gene pool. To everyone else, Happy Holidays and stay safe.

Dan @ 12/16/2014 6:49 PM

@LT Steve. I don't always agree with what kevCopAz writes but I have no idea what you are disagreeing with. I don't see anything in his post to indicate he was advocating killing anyone.

Marshal @ 12/17/2014 8:05 AM

I agree with the rookie. If not total blue flu then we just hang back and pick up the pieces and take a report. Why should we keep risking our lives for this type of treatment. And now we have to worry even more about our family's safety. I have done this job for over 20 years now and watched it get worse but this is as bad as ever. If a police officer knowingly does wrong that is one thing but when they are trying their best to do their job and stay safety then get treated like this it is crap. I really want to say a lot more but in society now it doesn't matter so not jumping in to fights and other violent acts for a while might get society to realize that it isn't the cops that are wrong.

Dan @ 12/17/2014 4:28 PM

@marshall. I couldn't agree more. It really wouldn't hurt people to stop being reliant on police and learn how to defend themselves for a change.
