VIDEO: California Chief Marches with Deadly Force Protesters

Amid the nationwide tumult over recent instances of police officers using deadly force against suspects, Northern California cities like Berkeley and Oakland have been rived by violent demonstrations.

But a different kind of protest popped up in the Bay Area city of Richmond on Tuesday, and at the vanguard of the gathering calling for a reduction in police violence in communities of color was an unlikely participant: Richmond's police chief.

Police Chief Chris Magnus, who has drawn acclaim for his community-policing approach and helping drive down both crime and use of force by his officers in recent years, was front and center, facing the street while holding a white sign that said "#blacklivesmatter." The photo quickly went viral on social media, the image of the uniformed chief with the popular hashtag a stark contrast to the anti-police sentiment many associate with it.

"I spoke with my command staff, and we agreed it would be nice to convey our commitment to peaceful protest and that black and brown lives do matter," Magnus told the Contra Costa Times after the protest. "And to help bridge the gap that we understand sometimes exists between police and community around certain issues."

I served as a Chief in the same county as this flaming liberal bozo pretend-a-chief. This is beyond despicable. The facts of the recent, necessary, justified killing of Black suspects by white officers were sufficient to convince Grand Juries to not issue true bills. Yet this politically correct, A$$ kissing "chief", in uniform, on city time perpetuates the myth that those two suspects were murdered by cops. He is an absolute disgrace to his position, his profession and the uniform. In anything other than a liberal city his days would be numbered for violating his own department's policy and procedure manual re: participating in a political function in uniform. But in the liberal San Francisco Bay area that won't happen. I feel for the real cops that work on that department and the embarrassment they must feel by having to work for such an AH.

Morning eagle @ 12/11/2014 4:32 PM

Totally agree with Ret. Chief opinions! What this 'chief' did is a disgrace and an insult to his officers and the profession across the board. But what else can be expected in California, especially the San Francisco area?

TheRookie @ 12/11/2014 4:36 PM

And while Rome burns Chief Magnus supports the arsonists. I'd like to know where he gets their crime stats. Contra Costa County alone has over a million people. Many are gang members & crooks just like anywhere. I'd be sure to bet the stats have went down since his policy to back-off has been enforced. Kind of like Moonbeam Brown's policy of no arresting illegal immigrants. When you don't address crime, enforce laws, or make arrests there's no true stats to go by. What a depressing Agency to work in that must be.

Federali @ 12/11/2014 4:56 PM

Hey "Chief", just turn in your property now and quit/retire. ALL lives matter, including "Blue" lives that are threatened and even lost to "Unarmed" $hitheads!

Tom Ret @ 12/11/2014 6:08 PM

Richmond's chief should pull out a joint and light up while he is at it to make the picture of this liberal, black thug apologist, complete. What a joy it would be to work for this moron. Apparently, truth, justice, and officer's lives are
inconsequential with Chief Bozo-aka Magnus.

Richard Koleff @ 12/11/2014 6:40 PM

This radical uniform wearing politican seem to be of the Saul Alinsky stripe!

Capt. Crunch @ 12/11/2014 6:41 PM

The mayor of Richmond should fire this chief, because it is against rules and regulations to have police officers protest while in uniform or on duty.

Retired NY Boss @ 12/11/2014 7:46 PM

Hey chief - All Lives Matter!

kevCopAz @ 12/11/2014 8:51 PM

Chief you are a disgrace! I agree, why didn't you carry a sign that says "Blue lives matter" for the LEOs killed by punks like Brown??? If he was able to take Wilson's weapon away as he intended we would have had another dead cop. Folks in general and Chief's like you would give a shit less!. I know command staff like you, rather a cop gets injured (or killed) and a bad guy escape then a police shooting and all the bad publicity and grief that they (command staff) have to deal with,,,which I may add is their job and why they get paid so very much to be ass kissing pols!

Jack Betz @ 12/12/2014 4:56 AM

Does this creep get paid in silver.

TX Lawman @ 12/12/2014 6:17 AM

We would get days off for doing this in uniform. Any protest in uniform no matter what the cause would get us days off or terminated. We are to be neutral while wearing Blue. Unbelievable!

Ken @ 12/12/2014 6:21 AM

This Chief should have his bags packed and be given a bus ticket out of town. He is a disgrace to Law Enforcement, his PD, and the nation. He sits on what little brains he may have.I'm glad a fool like this is not the my Chief!

bobt1241 @ 12/12/2014 6:32 AM

I agree with all posts that this man is a disgrace to his uniform and profession. What I don't understand is the post by an individual who calls himself "Chief Ramsey". Are you serious? You, sir, have missed the point of the story completely and obviously have the combined IQ of a melting ice cube. I hope you're not in law enforcement because if you are, you, too, are an embarassment.

XXXXX @ 12/12/2014 6:49 AM

Picture this, Buford T. Justice and Jr. roll up to this intersection, look over and see this chief standing there holding this sign. What do you think Sheriff Justice would say? Best quote wins!

Kevin Ranieri @ 12/12/2014 7:30 AM

What a disgrace how in the world can these officers work for this guy when he is marching against his own men! Kiss ass bastard you are desperate to keep your job you can not keep it based on the knowledge of the job and running an efficient department. You dope!!!!!

Dan @ 12/12/2014 8:00 AM

OMG hat has it gotten to, would have love to sit in on the evaluation board when this moron was hired. " So you where in charge of the "Hug a Thug" in Berkley! "Yes" Awesome welcome aboard Chief!

Dr. James M. Buccigross @ 12/12/2014 9:46 AM

I fully agree with all the above posts - this is disgraceful. I can't think of anything that would be more damaging to a department's morale than a so-called "chief" (he may have the job, but respect for the title while in it must be earned, in my opinion) acting in such a manner. While in uniform he is supposed to be neutral as was already pointed out - but from what I've read about this guy, he seems to be so liberal that he's even to the left of Alinsky, - he's a pure politician who is trying to out-Herod Herod. grand-standing for his own benefit. He should be supporting his officers or keeping his mouth shut. How he can look at himself in the mirror in the morning is beyond me. And as was also said above - all lives matter, including those in blue. He needs to go because he has no respect for our legal system, which, represented by the grand jury, reviewed the evidence & found no cause to indict Officer Wilson, who is the one who TRULY deserves the support of ALL LEOs.

KevCopAz @ 12/13/2014 11:01 AM

Hey the first Kev Cop is real I have no idea who the second one is, an impostor,,,grow up whoever you are you racist bastard.

Richard Hightower @ 12/15/2014 7:17 AM

"Dispicable" is the best description of this "Cheif" I've seen to date. I would personally use the words "traterous" and "criminal" myself. But, Dispicable is probably a better word.
