Berkeley Protesters Shut Down Freeway, 150 Arrested

December 09, 2014  |

Hundreds of people gathered to march through the streets of Berkeley, Calif., and shut down the Eastshore freeway for more than an hour Monday evening, the latest in an ongoing series of nationwide and local protests over police violence, reports Inside Bay Area.

More than 150 people were arrested after they walked onto Interstate 80 and blocked both lanes of traffic for more than an hour, according to the California Highway Patrol. The CHP said its officers were assaulted with rocks and other objects when they tried to clear the protestors from the highway.

Those people arrested were booked into Santa Rita Jail on a variety of charges, including resisting/delaying/obstructing a peace officer, according to the CHP.

Berkeley police said Tuesday morning that they arrested eight adults and a juvenile during the protests, but that the demonstrators remained mostly peaceful in the city. Police did not report any injuries to officers or demonstrators and said there was no reported looting or reports of property damage.

When people start demonstrating, send the Police into the crowd and hand out job applications. The crowd ought to thin out and disappear within minutes.

I dont understand this at all. CA is a liberal state run by liberals and very "tolerant" of all races, genders, secs etc etc. Yet there are violent protests. Here in Az. we LEOs are a "bunch of bigots", "anti-black, anti-hispanic" we "hate" Immigrants and are a bunch of "backward hicks" who live to make life miserable for those "of color". Yet there were days of protests here on Phx. about a shooting here (and the others Nationally). Yet ZERO riots, no looting, no fires, no trouble at all. The NAACP (rep. (Mr. Tillman) and Rev Mopin who led the demonstrations praised the police for their professional conduct during the protests. The people here exercised their Constitutional rights to free speech protest and grievance to the government and all did so lawfully and without incident. Yet did ANY of the National News Media report this??? HELL NO! Typical. If it bleeds it leads. The Media are as much to blame for this violence as the protestors are! People,be CRITICAL thinkers!

Oh, besides, why were anyone arrested in Berkley area at all? They are full of love for the "under class of the poor minorities" and are full of "guilt due to white privilege" and they are against anything that harms the environment (i.e. cars) so a protest of this sort, stops evil cars from polluting, gives the rioters property (stolen from them by Whites) that they "rightfully are due" and makes minorities happy. What else would a Northern Ca Liberal want? Shame of the police for arresting these folks who were just misunderstood and even helping the environment! A true "Berkleyite" would give all that they own to help the oppressed and the environment, wouldn't they?

Governor Jerry Brown & Nancy Pelsoi are most likely beaming with pride about the violence these riots have produced. I don't understand how these inept boobs justify in their own minds the destruction of peoples property(ies), & injuries to others. California is a, Lost Cause State.

Berkeley is the only foreign country in California across the Bay Bridge from San Francisco.

Time to break out the tanks and the CS foggers that we don't have.
