VIDEO: Denver Protesters Cheered When Car Struck Officer

Denver high school students protesting recent civilian deaths involving police chanted "Hit him again!" after a car struck four bicycle officers - injuring one critically - Wednesday night, the city's police union charged.

Officer John Adsit of Denver PD underwent six hours of surgery Thursday for injuries sustained in the accident and was in critical, but stable condition. But the reaction of young students, reported by the Denver Post, left residents stunned and members of the Denver Police Protection Association angry. Students were heard chanting and cheering after the officers were hit. Teachers looked on and did not intervene while the students chanted, Fox31 Denver reports.

"The Denver Police Protective Association has learned that immediately after the horrible accident yesterday injuring four Denver Police Officers, several parties in the protesting group cheered and chanted 'hit him again.'" These actions are not only reprehensible but quite possibly the most disturbing thing this Association has ever heard," a statement released by the police officers' union Thursday night said.

The students were mainly marching in support of people protesting the shooting death of 18-year-old Michael Brown, who was killed by Officer Darren Wilson in Ferguson, Mo.

In a statement of its own, the Denver Police said it could not confirm the claims made by the union that students cheered when the officers were struck.

The student protest organizer says it was not students, but grown men who joined the protest march that cheered when the vehicle hit officers.

The students chanting to run over the officers again were witnessed doing so by their teachers so their version of "someone else" chanting are lies (read the link). Plus the students were all cutting classes and participating in an illegal protest. I am disgusted by these students actions.

Dave @ 12/6/2014 7:22 AM

Were these HIGH SCHOOL students? If so, I think the teachers have a duty to report what happened. If they were college students, we will never know the truth, since today's colleges are a haven for liberalism and anti-government movements.

I pray for those officers, and for those kids who were shocked and disgusted by the people cheering. I'm sure there were SOME people present who wanted to punch those people who were cheering.

TheRookie @ 12/6/2014 7:27 AM

Best wishes & a speedy recovery to Officer Adsit & the other 3 Officers. Being retired from Denver/Metro-Area L.E. I don't find this shocking.
For the past 5 to 8 years the powers to be have allowed students to walk out of schools whenever they want to protest any issue(s). They do nothing about it, so they have no control of juveniles and/or their school system(s) any longer. That's generally what happens when outsider progressive liberals come into a state & communities tailoring it to their destructive wants.

Chip-I would laugh if you needed a cop and no one showed up which would be
poetic justice.

justice pro @ 12/6/2014 8:28 AM

Chip, it may be hard for you to understand, you live in the USA and each state has its own laws - what my be a crime where you live may not be one in FL where I live. Statutes that deal with the Grand Jury or the Use of force also very. Unless you read the transcript of the GJ you will NEVER know what the GJ heard or saw or what the witnesses said or didn't say, a good starting point would be the Prosecutor video. Law Enforcement is one a few jobs that when you leave for work you may not come home...think about it!

Tyson @ 12/6/2014 9:03 AM

By the actions of some VERY Stupid Officers , we all going to pay, it is Open season on any one walking with a police uniform,
Think , Think, Think Before you act! Think,!!!!!!

Rich Koscho @ 12/6/2014 9:06 AM

We need to stop responding to Chip !
He is not worth our effort. Get well wishes to the Ofc. That was hurt.

Shieldefender @ 12/6/2014 9:21 AM

Wow Chip, really?? How about if YOU were the one hit by a car while onlookers chanted for your death? It's people like you that are what's wrong with country today--making judgment calls based on emotion and rhetoric alone instead of facts. Stop trolling and get your head out of your behind.

Mimix2 @ 12/6/2014 10:02 AM

For those idiots bashing all cops, I hope when you need them they don't show. Like it was said above you wouldn't survive ten minutes without the police! Keep running your mouths!!!!! Sir Charles said it right!!!!!!

sgtken @ 12/6/2014 2:59 PM

Time for the Denver cops to all call in sick and see how society really is without them. I guarantee anarchy..

Larry Romero @ 12/6/2014 6:14 PM

Prayers and thoughts for Officer John Adsit and the other three bike officers. They are just doing their job, get hit by a car and some in the crowd turn on them. where are the cameras while an "officer is down". Very sad. God bless Denver Police Department.

Capt. Crunch @ 12/6/2014 6:15 PM

@ Mohammed, don't worry the police will still protect your sorry ass. Merry Christmas to you and I hope you have a nice ham for Christmas dinner.

Carlos @ 12/6/2014 6:44 PM

The real irony is the Officers where there to keep the protesters safe. But karma can be a real bitch and if these students were (God forbid) to become victims during an Active Shooter situation; I'd bet that they would kiss the dog poop soiled soles of the shoes of the very Officer whose injuries they were just celebrating.

Mimix2 @ 12/6/2014 6:49 PM

There are a lot of thugs that don't like authority so that's why there are so many negative comments you ignorant Muhammad pig yourself! Maybe you will end up gone because of your ignorance!!!!!

plato's playdough @ 12/7/2014 1:30 AM

Note to everyone. No Muslim would pick a name like Mohammed Fux Pigs. He is baiting for someone to provide Anti-Islam remarks.

Just sayin'. By the statement just below the Post A Comment, POLICE Magazine does not tolerate comments that include profanity, personal attacks or antisocial behavior (such as "spamming" or "trolling"). This and other inappropriate content or material will be removed.

I don't think these comments EVER get removed. Gee, I wonder WHY.

plato's playdough @ 12/7/2014 1:37 AM

If you check for YouTube vids on this news subject, you will see the "color" of the students. Not the same "color" as the Officer.

Therefore, by precedent, their comments were malicious and racist. The AG should immediately investigate. The PD should sue for violation of his civil rights. Looting and random gunshots should be seen as a valid form of demonstration. Governor of the state should attempt to placate protesters, and ingratiate himself by retraining the entire bicycle corps.

I know, I know, I need to get off the sarcastic train.

Capt. Crunch @ 12/7/2014 11:32 AM

Just so you all know I did not write the post about beating the shit out of Muslims. But I do agree Mohammed is a IDIOT.

Ima Leprechaun @ 12/7/2014 7:50 PM

I apologize to those of you I was snippy to when you replied to MF or Chip. Someone is pulling their posts so they are not always visible when I am on line. Now that I can see their posts I understand. Previously it appeared as though you were blasting an invisible man, sorry! Somebody is editing them off the board.

krisnlc @ 12/8/2014 8:32 AM

Man o is sad when people cheer about anyone getting hurt....but seems worse if the cheering is over police officers getting hurt. we have to take a step back and really take a look at what is happening...just recently i saw a rap video called "this is what happens when you call the cops", it depicted police officers in multiple excessive force situations. Unless you are a cop, people dont understand the different situations you face daily and how those situations change in a blink of an eye. police need to protect themsevles for sure... still each encounter needs to realize that when "resistance ceases; force immediatley stops", are we sure we are doing this in every circumstance?? If the answer is yes...then the outcome is the best outcome in that situation...unfortunately sometimes that means someone dies, but don't let freedom of speech a constitutional right "jade" those in uniforms...the mission is still to "protect and serve".
