Wichita to Equip All Officers with Body Cameras

November 13, 2014  |

Wichita will become one of the largest cities in the country to outfit every police officer on the force with body cameras, Interim Police Chief Nelson Mosley said Wednesday.

The department is adding 450 cameras to the 60 already deployed, Mosley said. The body cameras will be fully implemented by the end of 2015 and will cost an estimated $1.5 million, the Wichita Eagle reports.

That money will come from the existing city budget, officials said. They will look at what changes can be made in existing programs to generate the needed revenue.

How to fund the cameras. Charge people $50 surcharge for posting their arrest on the web. And $500 for not posting it.
