The death will be investigated by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement but according to Orlando police, Pugh and another man, 20-year-old Daivion Gregory-Osaghae, were involved in a hit-and-run crash just before 5 a.m. Wednesday.

The handcuffed man who died after police say he jumped from a third-floor balcony Wednesday morning to escape arrest was identified Thursday as 18-year-old Jarrick Pugh.

The death will be investigated by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement but according to Orlando police, Pugh and another man, 20-year-old Daivion Gregory-Osaghae, were involved in a hit-and-run crash just before 5 a.m. Wednesday.

By the time police arrived at the Hamptons at Metrowest apartment complex, Pugh and Gregory-Osaghae had already abandoned their white Nissan Maxima and had run inside a third-floor apartment where they were found by officers Kimberly Adkison and John Neigel, the Orlando Sentinel reports.

Both men, who were believed to be under the influence of drugs, were handcuffed. As they were being escorted away from the apartment, Pugh tried to escape by throwing himself over the balcony, according to Sgt. Lovetta Quinn-Henry.

Pugh later died of his injures.
