N.J. Court Rules for Cop Killer's Parole

September 29, 2014  |

A man convicted in the 1973 killing of a state trooper should be released on parole, a state appeals court ruled Monday in a case where a codefendant remains one of the state's most wanted fugitives four decades later, reports NorthJersey.com.

Sundiata Acoli was convicted of shooting State Trooper Werner Foerster to death during a traffic stop after being pulled over for having a tail light out. At the time of the murder, Acoli was known as Clark Edward Squire. Another trooper was also hurt during the traffic stop.

In the car with Acoli was Joanne Chesimard who is believed to be a fugitive living in Cuba under the name Assata Shakur.

Acoli has been denied parole multiple times, most recently in 2011, but the appeals court found that he had shown enough progress to warrant release.

"Make no mistake, we are completely appalled by Acoli's senseless crimes, which left a member of the State Police dead and another injured," the ruling said. "But Acoli has paid the penalty under the laws of this state for his crimes."

The court ruled that he has a right to be paroled unless the state can prove he has a substantial likelihood to commit another crime – something the court found was unlikely.

Make sure to find him a nice apartment near the Judge's house and office. How damned stupid can this liberal ass judge be? The guys will probably join ISIS and come back to behead his witnesses. Another reason to finish the guy off when the partner may have had the opportunity. Sure would save tax dollars for a killer!

Nick Zingo @ 9/29/2014 4:44 PM

What a disgrace to LEOs everywhere to release this cockroach back into society! So he has paid his debt to society? Not quite! Gee I'm sure it makes the slain officer's family feel so much better that the ruling made a statement that they are appalled by Acoli's crimes. Big deal! Your being "appalled" is meaningless to law enforcement and their loved ones. Cop killers have NO PLACE in society ever!

Marty BRownfield @ 9/29/2014 4:45 PM

I'm sure that if this POS had killed a Judge or a member of a judge's family he'd get place in a cell so deep in the hole they'd have to pipe light to him.

The fact his accomplice is still at large should have been taken into account as well.

Mike @ 9/29/2014 4:46 PM

This is UN-**-BELIEVABLE... I AGREE WITH 'SGT JJ' lets find a nice apartment near that Judges house... nooo, Im SURE he won't commit another crime.

TERRY F. ZECH VAPD (RET) @ 9/29/2014 5:06 PM

I think we should have him go to work for the judge as a handyman to show the judge just how rehabilitated he is. NOT HE NEEDS TO HAVE THEBIG GREEN NEEDLE SHOVED IN HIS BUTT.

Scott @ 9/29/2014 5:09 PM

Every once in a while judges cry for more personal protection, not just in the courtrooms but even at their residences. When they do I think of idiot rulings like this one and say "you helped make this stuff, now live in it like the rest of us".

mrs @ 9/29/2014 5:34 PM

That happened in Maryland a few years ago, Officers Clagget and Swart were killed by another upstanding citizen - he was paroled and guess what he tried to rob a bank - he shot himself, so it ended well, but it may not have

Ali Akbar @ 9/29/2014 5:38 PM

Filthy cockroach indeed.....a sub human who should not be allowed to breathe free air ever. Maybe he should join the roachette in Cuba and live a miserable life of pain together.

Concerned Citizen @ 9/29/2014 6:34 PM

Judges like this also release Illegal Aliens into the population to rape, kidnap and murder people! These activist judges are Traitors. O and his cronies are now Giving Illegal Aliens free citizenship for Joining the Military so they can point GUNS at Law Abiding citizens and create Genocide! Not only should this LEO killer be locked up for good, or have the Death Penalty. But the Judge should be thrown in PRISON for BURNDENING SOCIETY with this human filth! That Judge has more in common with Sundiata Acoli than a Law Abiding citizen.

This isn't fostering the Common Good for the people of the USA! Letting any KILLER walk is wrong! What's the point of Laws? If people are given a free pass to break them? They don't mind letting people like this hurt our families, but if an Illegal Alien killed the Judges family or this Punk. There would be hell to pay!

gary @ 9/29/2014 6:54 PM

But have a white officer shoot a black criminal and oh boy, riots, burning, looting, more riots. People wonder why society is falling apart. Take a look at our wonderful court system.

Eric @ 9/29/2014 7:47 PM

This is dispicable. Sad times in America right now.

They both now have Muslim names. They must be the peaceful ones that every damn PC Politician is afraid to call out. They're so damn afraid of CAIR & other Islamist Rag Heads that they can't even say the words, "Radical Jihadist Islamic Muslim." How long have they known the other COP KILLER is in Haiti. Long enough to of taken her into custody. They travel anywhere else to do so if it's part of their agenda(s). All you active L.E.O's. out there watch yourselves. Not only do you have the thugs out to kill you, but the politicians & DOJ, also.

plato's playdough @ 9/30/2014 2:09 AM

He Was A Black Panther at the time of the murder of the Officer, using the Officer's own weapon. Here's an article to detail backstory_ http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2014/09/29/sundiata-acoli-released_n_5901272.html

Now read his OWN WEBSITE, and notice the terminology, and you can connect the dots, see__http://www.sundiataacoli.org/

Notice there, Assata Shakur's remark about "being respected by revolutionaries all over the world." She was also in the murderer's car on the date of incident, and fled the country unapprehended, details in the First article indicated above. Former name was Joanne Chesimard, and she fled to CUBA.

plato's playdough @ 9/30/2014 2:14 AM

And to JOE NATHAN. That verse needs to taken in context. WHO wrote it, and TO WHOM was it written. It was for members of the EKKLESIA, aka the Assembly, taken to be the Community of Believers. The Essene version of the same idea was called HaYachad, translated His Community, but the words also can be translated as His UNITY, as of course they were all believers in ONE COMMON FAITH.

Take a freakin' hint.

When you put these dots together, you will begin to see the donkey and the cart you could not see before.

Then you can connect Holder, Obama, and Rev Jeremiah Wright.

If you will just take the time.

plato's playdough @ 9/30/2014 2:44 AM

And only if you DO take the time...

Will you be able to "see the light" within the following article:

http://www.policemag.com/channel/patrol/news/2014/09/29/justice-department-to-ban-profiling-by-federal-law-enforcement.aspx?utm_campaign=OnTarget-Monday-New-20140929&utm_source=Email&utm_medium=Enewsletter

Which just happened to be published the same date as the article we are now responding to.

FairnessForAll @ 9/30/2014 3:28 AM

@gary RACE into this one really??? I used to stand behind all LEO's which I why I joined this sight to begin with, but more and more I find you all have one track minds, and are a bit racist to boot. You all say you believe in justice, but are VERY closed minded when it comes to a person serving their time, and possibly being rehabilitated. Okay I get how you feel on that one, but to say anything about white on black crime with clearly this case has NOTHING to do with that makes wonder what you all really think about black people in America. Remember they are not here of their own choice...unlike most Hispanics.

Chief Bruce Underhill @ 9/30/2014 5:37 AM

Had he paid the price for the crime, he would be dead now and not being paroled. Another slap in the face to LEO's not only in NJ, but everywhere.

Joe Nathan @ 9/30/2014 6:21 AM

Matthew 6:15

15 but if you do not forgive others their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.

Chief Tom Holland @ 9/30/2014 7:12 AM

I would not object to this "mans" release provided one condition was met. Trooper Foerster would need to come back from the dead and tell us it is OK with him if this monster is released.

In 1978 my partner was killed during a drug raid in Texas. The murderer got life without parole. He was released in 2006 and is presently living near the ocean in Florida. My partner is still dead.

Richard Hightower @ 9/30/2014 7:19 AM

Acidents do happen. This poor unfortunate soul could get a terminal case of lead posoning. After all, a lot of places that such Parolees have to live in have not had the hazardous substances remediated.

132&Bush @ 9/30/2014 2:20 PM

Any LEOs with terminal cancer reading this......just asking.
