VIDEO: 1 Deputy Killed, 1 in Critical Condition in S.C. Standoff

Nearly nine hours after a shooting that killed one Charleston County, S.C., deputy and seriously wounded another, an ensuing standoff ended, reports WCIV.

Assistant Sheriff Mitch Lucas confirmed the overnight standoff had ended around 3:45 a.m. At a press conference Tuesday, Lucas identified the wounded deputy as 43-year-old Michael Ackerman, a member of law enforcement since 2004. He is expected to recover, officials said. The slain deputy was identified by Lucas as Joseph Matuskovic, 43, also a former Charleston police officer.

Coroner Rae Wooten said the shot that killed Matuskovic was fired at 8:37 p.m. The man barricaded himself in an apartment and fired shots through the door, striking the two on-duty deputies.

Wooten also identified the suspect in Monday night's shooting as 38-year-old Michael Oswald. Wooten said her office was still investigating the deaths and would not say whether Oswald killed himself or if a deputy hit and killed him in the exchange.

For nine hours after the shooting at the Gardens on Ashley River apartment complex, the suspect had barricaded himself in an apartment and negotiators had little to no luck getting him to talk to them.

According to Charleston County deputies, the shooting stemmed from a drunken man who was banging on doors at the Gardens at Ashley River apartment complex on Carriage Lane.

Any of you jarhead rookies need to wake the fu^^ up and see serving any BULL--- SH,** of TYRANNY of this country is no longer a viable occupation and your industry was made to squash people or USA CITIZENS and protect the REAL BIG CROOKS ie BANKSTERS and so many other crooked ORGANIZATION's,,,, right now you are being geared up for all out CIVIL WAR which may ensue upon the collapse of USA DOLLAR or another murderous attack by Internal US GOVT persons who I absolutely believe performed 9/11/2001 only to further a world wide agenda called THE NWO?

Mitch @ 9/9/2014 4:41 PM

people are getting fed up. You are one sick piece of trash.

sgtmac_46 @ 9/9/2014 5:46 PM

Don't feed the loony parents basement dwelling Alex Jones-masturbators........it only encourages them.

Concerned Citizen @ 9/9/2014 7:41 PM

I'm fed up with people trying to Imply they are ME! I do believe in the NWO. But I also believe in HONESTY! Honest discussions about topics etc. If people hate Alex Jones so be it. Mark Dice isn't half bad either. I'm Anti-Police State, but Pro-Law Enforcement. Like enforcing Immigration Laws. Every time I ignore this Troll, and act kind. It shows up again. You LEOs don't have to agree with anything I say. It's a free country! But there's nothing wrong with questioning things. It's sad that someone has to attempt show Negative light on people who question things. It's all divide and conquer. Show the person to be a "Nut" or a Tin Foil Hat Person etc. I don't know if they're a Dis Info or Psyop. Why should I care? But I am Fed Up with persons trying to make me look bad! It would be nice if they block the IP of the "Pretender" and E-mail address. Serpico etc. and CC has disagreed on issues, but has shown civil discourse with issues etc.

What in the hell are you all talking about? These are the most F'ed up comments I have ever seen. Did the mental institution just get WiFi?

ftrnr @ 9/10/2014 3:50 AM

Rest in peace Deputy Matuskovic. To the rest of you, let's not use the death of an officer to spout your hate. If you call in the middle of the night, we come....regardless of what you say about us.

Ben @ 9/10/2014 5:18 AM

Don't forget the medic who also pass during this while responding to the officer down call. RIP all brother's.

jason @ 9/10/2014 10:02 AM

TheRookie @ 9/10/2014 3:35 PM

It always has and always will be a dangerous profession. Difference today is that every nut & their imaginary brother(s) have internet capabilities. Used to be you sent PM a letter. It was read, edited, and printed or not. Not today. The PC wack jobs are like ants on a pile. Thick & a big nuisance.
RIP Deputy Matuskovic, GWS Deputy Ackerman, & may all the direct & L.E. Family Members find some solace in the coming days.

May Michael Oswald rot in HELL with all his other followers...!!!

Jacob @ 9/12/2014 10:40 AM

Wow. Anti-Police State, BUT Pro Law Enforcement.
I guess updating a fleet is 'that' convincing for some.
Tying in conspiracy theories solves absolutely nothing, at all - period.

You can't blame a department for hiring (their) model employees.
Sometimes the roots begin to show, and it cost those involved - regardless.
