A police report released Friday by Ferguson police identifies Michael Brown as a suspect in a robbery at a convenience store a short time before he was fatally shot by a police officer.

Documents released by Ferguson Chief of Police Tom Jackson in response to Sunshine Law requests name Brown as a suspect in the robbery of a store in which about $50 worth of cigars were taken.

The chief's statement spurred anger from protesters at the QuikTrip where he made the announcement. The chief was quickly hustled away from the area and he did not answer questions, launching a whole new round of protest along West Ferguson Avenue.

The name and address of the store police say was robbed are redacted from the documents, but it was not the QuikTrip that has become ground zero of protests. Also named as a suspect in the robbery is Dorian Johnson, 22, a man who has said he was with Brown when he was shot, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.

Jackson described events before the shooting on Saturday, saying Officer Darren Wilson was at a sick call from 11:48 a.m. to about noon. An ambulance was also at that scene.

At 11:51 a.m. a 911 caller reported a strong-arm robbery at a convenience store, Jackson said. He did not name the store. A brief description went out a minute later.

A different officer went to the convenience store and a more detailed description went out a short time later. The robbery suspect was said to be heading toward the QuikTrip in Ferguson.

Wilson left the sick call and encountered Michael Brown at 12:01 p.m. Sometime between then and 12:04 p.m., when a second officer arrived at the scene, Brown was fatally shot by Wilson.

6'4" @ 290 lbs. With that & video it's a whole different narrative & tone now. And the witness Jr. Johnson just happened to be the accomplice.

wolf10989 @ 8/15/2014 10:04 AM

The sad part of this whole sordid mess is everybody's rush to judgment (those with an agenda, like Sharpton, Lenny and others), and even those who are pro law enforcement. It would be nice if the sensationalistic news media just reported the facts with no spin (positive or negative), and let the facts speak for what happened. What will likely end up being proved by DNA is Michael Brown's DNA is in the front of the squad car where the officer was attacked. Too often people forget that the stories from Hollywood about rogue cops executing people are just that.....stories. Are there bad cops out there? Yep, just like there are bad people who attack cops. Did Brown have a reason to attack the officer, possibly to get away. Did Johnson have a reason to lie, apparently.

NOTMEOFFICER @ 8/15/2014 10:05 AM

Well.... now more facts emerge..
and the little angel isnt one...

My prayers are for everyone involved

A suspect is dead.. an officers life chamged forever.. a town divided.. crooks and dirtbags rioting... crowd behavior...

After policing the L.A riots in the middle of Watts, watching my patrol area burn... being held back by politicians, and watching good people be vicitmized I vowed to never live in a city again where there are such people

Retired NY Boss @ 8/15/2014 10:13 AM

What, the "Gentle Giant" involved in a robbery? Not possible. Must be a police conspiracy.

Ret. Cpl. Laura @ 8/15/2014 10:30 AM

I know the Good, The Bad & The Ugly about police conduct. What I don't understand is while waiting for answers, do people need to loot, burn and destroy the livelihood of innocent businesses. Sadly TV shows show all the answers and arrests made within 60 minutes and real life investigations take considerably longer!

My heart goes out to brother Officer Darren Wilson. Regardless the outcome of the investigation, his life will never be the same.

Capt. Crunch @ 8/15/2014 12:24 PM

I bet the black people in Ferguson really feel stupid now. Obama, should personally give the officer that shot Brown, a commendation. After all that officer did a great community service.

Tom Ret @ 8/15/2014 12:43 PM

I suspect that facts won't matter to a lot of folks who listen to bozo Sharpton or others like him because it flies in the face of their assumption that this was a clear case of bmw or black male walking. The black community is all to willing to believe that this was purely a racist attack and their excuse to loot. Now that the information with pictures is coming out concerning the thug, aka gentle giant Brown, being involved in a strong arm robbery, the media is now focusing blame on the local police for over reacting in their attempt to quell the rioting and looting and shouldn't be using all that military looking gear.

If the people in that community don't support the police when they are right and doing their job then they deserve anarchy.

TERRY F. ZECH VAPD(RET) @ 8/15/2014 12:49 PM

Prayers are up for all involved. Johnson is the one they need to sit down and quietly interview and listen to him admit Brown went after Officer Wilson, then play it back for all the rioting idiots who are destroying their own neighborhood. It shows in the video that Brown did not care that he was robbing the store and I would like to bet he has done it a lot and just has not gotten caught. Officer Wilson is blaming himself for something he probably had to do. I will wait for the facts to come out and we will see if justice is preserved.

Ima Leprechaun @ 8/15/2014 6:52 PM

This thug and his two friends jumped the Police Officer with the intent to kill him. They wrestled with the Officer and tried to take his gun in order to kill him. They were not innocent bystanders in any form and they were violent attackers of a Police Officer. If someone tries to kill a Police Officer I would expect the Officer to protect himself. This attacker was a thug and experienced criminal and nobody is talking about that. But the suspect was a very bad person and not the angel the media is making him out to be. I pray for the Officer and his family, he was just protecting himself from being murdered.

Concerned Citizen @ 8/15/2014 7:42 PM

The Mainstream Media is helping to span the flames of hate, they should be held accountable for the Businesses looted etc. So should the POTUS who sides without knowing all that facts. Then he plays God and Mediator with a Beer Summit siding with a Racist Black Professor that's Paranoid that all LEOs and Whites are out to get him! All the while POTUS knows what he's doing. The more HATE he has the more power over Low Info Voters and those who don't ask questions! The only authority figures they question ARE LEOs. But are the same ones who said Zimmerman should have waited etc. when Trayvon had the chance to 1. Go Home, or Call 911.

Fred M. @ 8/15/2014 8:01 PM

Darren Wilson was in fear of great bodily harm. Thank God he had a weapon to defend himself with. The truth will out. I pray for Officer Darren Wilson.

Chill @ 8/16/2014 12:05 AM

If I had a gun I would shoot him too if he tried to attack me. He's a thug who bullied his way thru life! Also a blood gang member!

Eric @ 8/16/2014 9:13 AM

Same story again innocent young man skipping to the store to buy, sorry, steal some cigars. What? Cigars? Now what do we think this innocent young man was going to do with those cigars?
Also, if a picture is worth a thousand words then I'm seeing about four thousand words that are telling a whole different story than what the media is telling.
Has anyone mentioned the poor store clerk that was assaulted by this gentle young innocent man?
The only fact that I'm not really clear on is what happened between the officer and this innocent young man that ended in shots fired.
Is it just me or did the State Police Captain that marched with the protesters just send very wrong message. He needs to stay neutral in this situation not take sides this early on, but then again he has a really big dog in this fight, so he says.
Just some thoughts.

Tom Ret @ 8/17/2014 6:51 PM

The Gov is now criticizing the chief of Ferguson PD for making the video of the store robbery available to the media. Why would he want to have this information a secret if he is interested in an accurate account of what happened in this case?
Maybe it doesn't go with his agenda and that of Capt Johnson who has tried the hug a thug approach which failed miserably! While Capt Johnson ordered his troops to stand by in apparent paralysis, the store robbed by Brown was looted. The store owner, after failing to get the police to respond, went to the store himself with a companion while armed to safeguard what was left of his store. When the rioting and fail to abide by the curfew continued in the following days, Johnson was forced to resort to the same show of force used by the chief initially. In my view, this has become a clear case of PC nonsense. The feds butting in will not change the outcome but will harm working relationships with the locals for a long time.

Joy @ 8/18/2014 5:16 AM

Thank you Ofc. Wilson for doing what you had to do. God bless you and keep you safe. Curses to the media- identifying the wrong officer, making Brown an innocent, causing the riots. Media should be charged with inciting to riot and locked up. Since when does freedom of speech permit lawlessness? Oh yes, it does if you are the media. Crucifying the good has been going on for thousands of years and continues today. What a shame.

Greg @ 8/18/2014 6:21 AM

OK, it's fairly simple, the Feds really want this to spin out of control. Why is Holder even involved? Just like St. Trayvon, they're stirring the pot. Why? More federal control, reduction of local law enforcement power, marshal law takeover, doing everything they can to make things worse (don't interrupt Holder's people looting, that's racist). Why no stopping black panthers fomenting killing police...the injustice department has no problem with rioters of the right color or local terrorists. Very scary and don't think this wasn't planned to take advantage of such a situation.

Joel @ 8/26/2014 11:53 AM

Just one small question, Our commander & chief is going to Mr. Browns funeral but not a two star general killed in combat? Is this real, please someone correct me!
