Carjackers Hit Crowd in Philly, Killing 2 Children

July 25, 2014  |

Two men hijacked a white Jeep in northern Philadelphia on Friday, throwing its terrified owner into the back seat, officers said. The carjackers lost control of the vehicle about one mile into their joyride, careening into a group of people standing around a fruit cart. The fatal crash reportedly killed two children and severely injured three other people. Authorities are still hunting for the pair, reports the New York Daily News.

A few minutes before the accident, officers say two men pointed a gun at a woman in a white Jeep, then took control of her car. About one mile into the joyride, they allegedly lost control of the car and slammed into the five pedestrians standing near a corner fruit stand at Germantown and Alleghany Avenues.

A 10-year-old boy died on the scene, while another child died at at Temple University Hospital, Philadelphia's police homicide Capt. James Clark said. The SUV's owner, another adult, and a third child were listed in critical condition at the hospital.

Cops are still hunting for the carjackers, who escaped the scene on foot after crashing into a tree.

There are evil people in this world that have no regard for life, not even their own. It frosts me that as a society we look at a carjacking or street robbery as the price of doing business in major cities. We should be outraged.

It's all the Po-lice's fault! Somehow, the death and injury of these victims has got to be the fault of any Law Enforcement Officer who was involved.

Isn't this the prevailing view of the residents of cities like Philly? The oxygen wasting scumbags who actually performed the act is never responsible for their own actions?

And people wonder why these incidents keep occurring?

"Two men hijacked a car..." What happened to providing a fundemental description, or would including the race not be imperative to apprehending the offenders?

If witnesses were close enough to determine gender, then I'm sure they told police the 2 men were white, black, Hispanic, Asian, Middle-Eastern, or whatever. So, include the detailed description on the news and print it in the paper!

I agree with Bill, how can there not be a better description of the men? This day and age I would be surprised if the carjacking WASNT caught on video on someone's cell phone. There are witnesses out there, hopefully they do the right thing and step up and help bring justice to these scum bags!

If you click on the link to the article, it states that one was black and one was latino. The clothing description was memorable, but no age, height, weight, etc.

The two suspects escaped on foot, leaving two dead children and the driver and two others in critical condition. How is that possible??? They walk and others die! What a terrible situation.
