Canadian Cop Killer Suspect in Custody

June 06, 2014  |

The Royal Canadian Mounted Police announced this morning that suspected cop killer Justin Bourque is in custody. The New Brunswick man was arrested in a wooded area of Moncton overnight.

“Early this morning at approximately 12:10 a.m., 24-year-old Justin Bourque was arrested without incident in a wooded residential area near the intersection of Wheeler Boulevard and Mountain Road in Moncton," RCMP superintendent Marlene Snowman said in a news conference on Friday.

Bourque is suspected of killing three RCMP officers and wounding two others in a Wednesday evening attack inside a Moncton subdivision. The officers were called to the scene by reports of a man with a gun walking down the street.

The names of the slain officers were also released this morning: Constable David Ross, Constable Fabrice Georges Gevaudan, and Constable Douglas James Larche. The two other officers who were shot and injured are now recovering well.

The arrest ended a manhunt that lasted more than 30 hours and involved more than 300 law enforcement personnel, police told CTV.

The Moncton man was unarmed at the time of the arrest, though police said weapons were recovered close by.
